01.04.11 | why do they call it football you use your hands?!?!?! |
Kiran
01.04.11 | the problem now with chelsea is that the players they've built their team around are hitting the latter stages of their careers. guys like terry, lampard and drogba aren't going to be able to replicate the form they've shown in previous seasons for much longer. with a host of injury-prone defenders and overwhelmingly average back ups, the problems are only now coming to light. who's going to replace drogba as the target man? sturridge? who's going to make up for the 15+ goal seasons lampard puts in? malouda's taken a huge responsibility but he's essentially a forward and as we've just seen (last season too), he drops in and out of form.
i'd take city's, united's, spur's or arsenals squads over chelsea's current group any day. |

01.04.11 | man u has NO bench and is far older.
now I agree with what you are saying for the most part I disagree in some parts. It has already been shown that Lamps will be able to pull a gigs (if not better) and that he will be a starter on a top team till his late 30's. He is also quick resiliant and I don't think chelsea really needs to worry about a stronger center mid for a couple years. Cech and to a lesser extent drogba should be good players for a couple more campaigns and cech never gets hurt.
Where they are really starting to hurt is at the back end. Terry is slowing down and I doubt his back is recovered. Cole seems worn out from too many seasons of doing too much. They will definetly need to do some rebuilding in the next couple of years but they should still be the best this year. (in epl at least). They have clearly shown, this season, that when all 11 are playing they are the best.
I do still believe that they have the 2nd best chance in the world to win champions league this year, if they focus on it. And they have a shitload of money to rebuild afterwards. |
Kiran
01.04.11 | man u has a hell of a bench - a hell of a squad in fact. i think you're underrating a lot of the less flashy players. when you're rotating players as freely as fergie does and still churning out consistent results, no questions need to be asked. |

01.04.11 | Chelsea CAN do it. just look back at the beginning of the season. but that is when everyone is on their A game. we've clearly seen their weakness. they are getting old, but they still have the potential |
couldwinarabbit
01.04.11 | ya that is what I said on their form (which they should be again by now) they are the best. They have just been collasping, even tactically on defense (which was their strongest trait for so long). man u has a good team that plays well together but since Ronaldo left they have an appalling record against big teams (not as much this year but that is because they have been the most consistant big team this year). |

01.04.11 | lol i genuinely feel bad for villa, such awful luck so consistently. barry leaves, milner leaves, o'neill leaves, injuries to agbonlahor and young, carew falls out of favour, emile heskey actually starts, your centreback is the most own-goal prone defender ever, but still one of the most likable squads imo.

They deserve it and have the talent. and even if they don't win it, I really wanna see someone besides Man U or Chelsea win it. There needs to be change and variety to the league. Not bashing Man U or Chelsea by any means, but you get my point. Man C would be nice as well. or Tottenham. They're in fantastic form. But then again, their Arsenals rivals so maybe not haha. Not one club has been consistent or looked like a dominating force at all this season. As for defence i think terry is starting to look a bit suspect at the back and hasn't been right since the details of his private life came out last season. 01.04.11 | I think Chelsea probably have the strongest XI when everyone's fit, but I think Spurs have the strongest squad in the Premier League. As a Newcastle fan I'd like to see Spurs win it, though in reality I can't see past one of the two Manchester clubs. |
Edwin
01.04.11 | Fair call on Spurs. Would be good to see them take a title as well. Anyone but City please. |
geng
01.04.11 | City won't win the league until they get some players who actually want to be there. Tevez and Balotelli both want out, and even Dzeko is only joining because Juventus haven't bid for him yet. Chelsea have too much ground to make up psychologically and not enough creativity in the side. Arsenal's defence is shocking. Utd for the title methinks. |
SHAKEandBAKE
01.04.11 | As a Blues supporter, I think if they regain their early-season form then they have a serious chance in the Champions League. Their defense is too experienced for their recent lapse to be anything other than a fluke. I'm fairly confident that they'll pull it together. Regarding the epl however, it's hard to see anyone other than the top three taking home the title. |
AliW1993
01.04.11 | City have the best defense in the league, and some fantastic individuals in attack. The only problem is that they don't know how to chase a game when they go behind, scene as their lineups are usually so defensive. I really don't want to see them win it because of the way they have effectively bought success (just like Chelsea, only worse), but if they don't this season then I'm pretty sure they will next year. The only thing I can see hindering their success is the new financial fair play rules, but they don't come into effect for a few years yet. |

01.04.11 | It is kind of depressing to see how much they struggle without Messi though, like their 2-1 game against Levante. Levante did play very defensively, but still. They rely way too much on him, Xavi and Iniesta and I think winning La Liga will be hard if any of those three get injured. |

01.04.11 | No offence, but I think it's a bit stupid to say Barca are over-reliant on Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. If you took any club or national side in the history of the game and took out their three best creative players then of course they wouldn't be the same. Imagine the 1970s Brazil side without Pele, Jairzinho and Tostao. |
Thane
01.04.11 | I didn't mean to take them all out at once, but if ONE of them is out you can really see them suffer from it. Sure, its the same for many teams but not to the same degree. Barca plays the same way all the time and they are very reliant on these three players. |
geng
01.04.11 | Yeah you may have a point there I suppose. |
Thane
01.04.11 | I've seen pretty much every single Barca game in the last 3 years, and when they have all these three players on they are the best team in the world. Take one of them off and they lose to Hércules =p (that game was really unlucky though) |
AliW1993

01.04.11 | Rofl this analysis is pretty off-the-mark.
Barcelona are the best team in the world at the moment and in a long time. Nothing to do with bribing referees. They're basically the Spanish national side.
Chelsea are not by far the most 'talented' team in the Premier League by any stretch of the imagination. Granted, they should be beating teams like Villa, but they're practically devoid of creative players and struggling to overpower teams like they did in the first month of the season. I agree that Cole was the only player to turn up in South Africa and that it's pretty odd how dramatically they've fallen. |

It'd be a shame if Torres left Liverpool for a rival but the move makes sense from his perspective and you shouldn't expect that kind of loyalty from foreign players, or even just players not at their youth club.
He's a risky buy anyway at the moment for me, injury prone and his form has been up and down. And who knows where Chelsea will be in a few years, with less money to spend and an aging team. |

01.29.11 | Yeah it makes sense that he's leaving, but he did say he would play until his contract was out and said he was loyal to LFC etc... Kinda shitty move but still. |

02.04.11 | They thought he'd always be a red – Torres! Torres!
You'll never walk alone he said - Torres! Torres!
They bought the lad from sunny Spain,
He scored a few then grew a brain
Fernando Torres – Chelsea's new number nine!
football chants are lame but fun when drunk |

02.04.11 | As a neutral I hope Liverpool thrash Chelsea, Torres has an awful game, Suarez grabs a few goals, saves a goal with a handball off the line clearance and then has a bit of a nibble on John Terry. |

02.04.11 | dw torres is alrdy gone from the heart of the kops, seen them burning their torres shirt man? scary stuff |

02.04.11 | yeah I think he could have gone about it a bit better. A good example would be when Henry switched to Barcelona, he left a video message thanking the fans and he's still a legend at Arsenal. |

02.04.11 | difference is torres just has a much more pessimistic attitude, and he handed in a transfer request anyway. henry is a legend too, so. |

02.04.11 | I love the guy, shame about that whole Ireland thing lol. He always came across as a good dude. I just can't wait to see this game though. |
