06.13.10 | Good to see you got #'s 1 and 7 right ;-).
Gonna say mine goes something like this:
HBP
PoA
DH
GoF
OotP
SS
CoS
The only one that underwhelmed me was "Chamber of Secrets;" the only reason "Sorcerer's Stone" is so low is because the books became longer reads at #4 (but I just love "Prisoner of Azkeban" for its minimal Voldemort involvement). |
Transient
06.13.10 | WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE
Prisoner of Azkaban
Sorcerer's Stone
Goblet of Fire
Chamber of Secrets
Half-Blood Prince
Deathly Hallows (Snape twist was the best thing in the entire series)
Order of the Phoenix |
PanasonicYouth
06.13.10 | chamber of secrets is so fucking gay
and prisoner of azkaban needs to be higher |

06.13.10 | I could see switching PoA and SS but that's it. |

06.13.10 | haha! not in California it's not =) |
Gyromania
06.13.10 | The books can't be read out of context, and therefore no particular book is more important or enjoyable than the last, as there's continuity to it. The only book that doesn't focus on its premise is the fourth, but it's still important for character development and introductions. |
FadeToBlack
06.13.10 | dumbed down for people who cant spell |

06.13.10 | Althought the chamber of secrets was a boring read, ashes against the grain is the best out of your albums.

Gyromania
06.13.10 | In what universe is the second book the least compelling? If anything, I would argue that its plot is the most interesting and is one of the more important books leading towards the end of the series. It showcases Harry's secret adoration for Ginny and has Harry destroy his first Horcrux. I wish the book were longer, as its plot was so excellent. |
Foxhound
06.13.10 | I can't argue that CoS isn't important but alls I mean with the raniking is that HbP and OoP were stunning and I felt that the first three books seemed like the powder keg for something amazing which was the subsequent 4th - 7th books. |
tiesthatbind
06.13.10 | The first three definitely can't compare to the last four. Still, they're all good. |
Gyromania
06.13.10 | I agree that they are the pretext, but honestly, the only thing I didn't enjoy as much as every other book in the series was the Order of the Phoenix, which had so much pointless dialogue. It's a fun read, and is essential, with some intriguing parts to it, but it's such a daunting task to read it all. |
Foxhound
06.13.10 | I honestly wish each book was twice as long. |
fr33convict
06.13.10 | How to "grow out" of books being to long or pointless: read the entire dictionary in one sitting. That'll make anything seem short and condensed. |
Gyromania
06.13.10 | The only one that I'm sure J.K. Rowling would also feel was regrettably too short was The Chamber of Secrets. The first and third seem to have a decent length tbh. The first book starts things off, and the third is basically for character introduction; the second book should have been longer as it was going off the success of the first and was very intricate.
I hope that her next series is of the Marauders, how cool would that be? |

Hated the writing in HBP, loved it in Phoenix. Phoenix is the best written and most interesting one, so it wins. Azkaban does too for its plot-twist. And of course Deathly Hallows make the series come together really complexly and mind blowingly cuz everything makes such perfect sense. |

ThirtySixChambers
08.27.10 | Besides Sirius Black, it didn't have all that much going for it. Of course I still thoroughly enjoyed it, but it's by far the weakest |
Electric City
08.27.10 | deathly hallows is pretty bad
half blood prince
prisoner of azkaban

chamber of secrets

wyankeif1337
09.12.10 | Well, none of them were really brutal killings, but a shitload of primary characters did die...
Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Hedwig, Snape, Creevy, and more I'm forgetting. My point is that there was more than enough killing for me. |
Foxhound
09.12.10 | I wanted the book to go in a way darker, more adult direction. if she ever makes a new series i'll be crossing my fingers. |

07.26.11 | Great list, but mine's along the lines of
1. Prisoner of Azkaban : This deals with some of the most abstract magical concepts I can even imagine.
2. Goblet of Fire : Brilliant book from top to bottom, introduced a long-time fav (Mad-Eye), and the tasks were really cool.
3. Deathly Hallows : I thought the first act of the book was good, but the 2nd was amazing!
4. Half-Blood Prince : So much character was packed into this book, I just ate it up.
5. Chamber of Secrets : Thought the mystery-solving for the heir of Slytherin was awesome.
6. Philosopher's Stone : 'Twas the initial adventure, and was obviously great reading about Harry discovering magic for the first time.
7. Order of the Phoenix : Kind of bored me during long stretches of the book, however certain portions made up for it. |

7. Prisoner of Azkaban |
