Soundwave 2012 - Melbourne

Was pretty awesome. I'm tired and sunburnt as all fuck, but rra good day roverall. Here's who I saw:
1Break Even

A fantastic start to the day. They crowd was energetic and they all performed really well, even though the vocalist's voice was shot. A great way to send them off.
2The Black Dahlia Murder

Another good start to the day. They had a surprisingly tight sound, as well as a good setlist. Ending with 'I Will Return' was awesome.
3Gojira

Fucking incredible. Each member was full of energy, swinging their instruments around like madmen. My only complaint is that they didn't play Ocean Planet, but we got Ouroborus and Flying Whales, so I'm content.
4Heaven Shall Burn

The sound quality in this area wasn't too great, but they still managed to put on a good show. Plus, the played Endzeit, Combat and Black Tears which are probably their three most well known tracks.
5Dream On, Dreamer

I've seen these guys once before live and they were shit then, I'm not sure why I would think they would be better. Terrible sound quality. Both guitars as well as synth was practically inaudible, and they played mostly their shit material. Terrible.
6Meshuggah

Second time seeing them, and they played really well again. They played one of their new tracks too. I left after that to get to Underoath on time...
7Underoath

Which was awesome. I'm not overly familiar with their material (I've only got half their albums, and haven't listened to them that much anyway) but they put on a great show, plus I recognized most of their songs anyway.
8In Flames

Even though they played most of their new stuff, they still performed well. Amongst a sea of tracks from Sounds Of A Playground Fading, they also had 'Cloud Connected' and 'Take This Life', so it wasn't all bad.
9Trivium

Only saw a bit before I headed off to Circa Survive, but they seemed to perform well. I've been over this band for a while now.
10Circa Survive

Now these guys were interesting to see. Much heavier live as well as energetic. The vocalist has a really interesting voice and singing technique. He's also a really funny dude, too.
11Enter Shikari

I was looking forward to seeing these guys because of how awesome I've heard they perform. Unfortunately, after two songs in (one being an intro) my friend decided she was claustrophobic and had to leave the pit. Being a gentleman, I escorted her out. I'm disappointed I couldn't see them, especially after waiting for so long, but I wasn't just going to leave her.
12Kvelertak

Now these guys were awesome. Not terribly energetic, but they had an incredible solid sound. Really catchy music, really makes you want to bang your head along with it. Good stuff.
13The Dillinger Escape Plan

Utterly spastic. What the fuck Greg, get of the mushrooms.
14Letlive.

Easily my favourite performance of the day. The whole band was really energetic, with the standout of course being Jason Butler. Dude loves to bounce about and wreck stage equipment. Solid sound, even in the area with bad sound quality, and an excellent setlist, including 'Day 54', 'Casino Colombus' and even a Black Flag cover!
15System Of A Down

Really good. Playing for about 90 minutes or so, they covered most of their well known songs. A few were strangely absent (Vicinity Of Obscenity) but still an excellent show and a good way to round out the day.
