10.04.10 | really hard to define what's flawless |

10.04.10 | "really hard to define what flawless"
by flawless I mean that it doesn't have a bad track |
TheBloodTypo
10.04.10 | Above post was kidding.
Anyway, if it's flawless, but you feel what the other album offers is better, than wouldn't the other album be better? |
eternium
10.04.10 | flawless =/ better |
Powerban
10.04.10 | Flawless doesn't = better. Since if you find an album that has 5/6 "perfect" tracks you'll tend to like it more than an album which has flawless ones. |

10.04.10 | Also, 3 is the best rap album ever. |

10.04.10 | Doesn't flawless mean perfect though? |

10.04.10 | "Also, 3 is the best rap album ever"
imo it's #2 or #3
Illmatic is #1 |
eternium
10.04.10 | Illmatic and 36 Chambers is behind it. |
Baphomet
10.04.10 | My definition of flawless is Shpongle's "Nothing Lasts... but Nothing is Lost".
And it's better than everything so yeah. |
JustJoe.
10.04.10 | I take flawless in the context of the album and the aim of the artist and their music. Maybe there is an album in the pop genre that is flawless in terms of what the artist can bring to the table, but I don't think that makes it perfect. It really does depend on the artist and what you value as a listener, and if the album does have a few lesser tracks, do it take away from the overall quality of the album. |

10.04.10 | "Doesn't flawless mean perfect though?"
I guess but in this case by flawless I meant that it has no bad tracks whereas RtD has some weak tracks |
JustJoe.
10.04.10 | Didn't mean to single out the pop genre, just an example. |

10.04.10 | Flawless means it has no flaws, so its perfect.
And Paul's Boutique is the better of the 2 |
JustJoe.
10.04.10 | I guess a good example, for me, would be "Illmatic" versus something like "Reasonable Doubt". I think Illmatic is "flawless" but the overall vibe of the album doesn't resonate as much with me as does "Reasonable Doubt", though "Reasonable Doubt" has a few songs that are a little less than adequate compared to the remaining tracks on the album. |
somberlain
10.04.10 | that's a good explanation JustJoe
@ Dev what hip-hop albums do you consider better than Paul's Boutique? |
JustJoe.
10.04.10 | Gracias, somberlain. I do what I can. |

10.04.10 | No. To me, a ranking of 4 denotes not only excellence, but flawlessness - for all intents and purposes, the album can be considered a classic within its own style/genre, and there's really nothing wrong with it at all. But thinking of it as a school-type grading system is problematic; an A+ or a score of 100 simply means you didn't fuck anything up. In music, there's definitely room for albums that go way beyond simply avoiding mistakes. To me, a 4.5 expresses music that transcends a mere lack of errors, and a 5 is basically an all-encompassing religious/otherworldly experience that transcends not only flawlessness, but music itself. |

10.04.10 | Not many albums really, probably just Critical Breakdown, It Takes A Nation Of Millions...., Mecca & The Soul Brother & Paid In Full |

10.04.10 | Both albums earn a 3.5 for me anyway |

10.04.10 | I only have a handful of albums that are really consistent
Weezer Pinkerton (this being the best of my consistent 5's)
David Bowie The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust...
Godspeed You! Black Emperor Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada
Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon |
somberlain
10.04.10 | Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon=good but not that consistent |

10.04.10 | ....Kid A :) |
deathofasalesman
10.04.10 | ....we get it. |
JustJoe.
10.04.10 | Burial- "Untrue" |
Masochist
10.04.10 | 'Wish You Were Here' is a definite 5 for me.
And an album can be without flaws but still not be the best. I don't think Arcade Fire's 'Funeral' has any flaws at all; every song on there is meticulously crafted, and it's a perfect album. BUT...My Bloody Valentine's 'Loveless' is a better album to me, even though a lot of the tracks tend to blend in with each other. Why? Because I enjoy listening to it more than I do 'Funeral'.
It kind of goes back to the whole "'Favorite Album' vs. 'Best Album'" argument. |
MasBarHigeuoris21
10.04.10 | Tupac was better |
BigPoppaDiesel
03.01.11 | PB was ahead of the game. The Dust Bros perfected it. RtD was because of Biggie. I know it may not make sense but PB was a team effort where RtD was an amazing 1 man show with some Puffy sprinkled in. |
