Best Active Black Metal Bands

The best active Black Metal Bands that came to my mind. Actually some of the very few bands I rstill care about.
13Taake
Noregs Vaapen

Their first 3 albums are classics of norwegian BM. Their latest works have been somewhat disappointing, but I still see lots of potential for forthcoming efforts.
12Forefather
Steadfast

2008's Steadfast is still one of the best melodic BM albums of recent times. Sadly, they haven't released anything of the same quality since.
11Deathspell Omega
Paracletus

With the completion of their album trilogy with Paracletus they have reached the pinnacle of their musical vision. Drought was a decent follow-up but didn't show any signs of progression (or degression).
10 Paysage d'Hiver
Das Tor

Wintherr has probably used the same formula more than once but it still works and transcends the outer world completely. Perfect for the current season.
9Inquisition
Obscure Verses for the Multiverse

Inquisition continue where Immortal started to abandon what made them so special in the past. Riff-based BM with unique vocals.
8 Murmuure
Murmuure

Their only album to date is so unique and mind-blowing that I would already consider it a classic of the genre. I'm really wishing for new material in the coming years.
7Summoning
Old Mornings Dawn

I just had to include Summoning on this list. We probably have to wait for another 7 years for a new album but I'm willing to do so if they forge somethings as beautiful as Old Mornings Dawn.
6Walknut
Graveforests And Their Shadows

Just like Murmuure, they only released one single album thus far. But a damn good one. Depressive BM in the vein of old Burzum/Drudkh.
5Agalloch
Faustian Echoes

Marrow Of The Spirit was a small step back from their previous efforts. I really can't put my finger on it, but it somehow lacked intensity. Faustian Echoes was pretty good though.
4The Ruins Of Beverast
Blood Vaults - The Blazing Gospels of Heinrich...

The best german BM Band to exist today. Blood Vaults was a mighty success in matters of originality and progression and one of the best albums of 2013.
3Burzum
Umskiptar

I still like Umskiptar a lot, despite what everyone else says. His latest ambient album sucks unfortunately.
2Urfaust
Der Freiwillige Bettler

One of the most overlooked bands on Sputnik, while quite a sensation in the BM underground. You will never hear a band that sounds like Urfaust. Ever. Yet you have to decide if that's a good thing or not.
1Moonsorrow
V: Havitetty

A phenomenal band who yet has to disappoint. Every album sounds distinctively different, some songs are folksy and epic, some are bleak and furious. Their last album was most certainly not their best, but I'm eager to hear how they are going to progress. Although I doubt they will ever beat what they did on V:H?vitetty.
