Mental radio
Hectic day at work today (I work at a coffee shop) + multiple caffeine?/sugar rushes (coffee is free for employees) = a crap ton of music flowing through my head at various points throughout the day. It was a stream flowing practically uninterrupted, as if my brain (third ear?) was some sort of mental XM station. These are tunes/albums that my... erm, "mental radio," you could call it... was playing at work today. |
1 | | The Delgados Hate
Been in love with this album as of late, so depressing but so dreamy at the same time. |
2 | | The Weakerthans Fallow
Their catchiest album, charming youthful naivete, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside |
3 | | The The Infected
If better '80s jams than "The Mercy Beat" and "Armageddon Days Are Here" (from Mind Bomb) exist, then I want to hear them |
4 | | PUP The Dream Is Over
I barely remember anything from this album but the chorus of "DVP" has stuck with me. If those melodies don't lift you up then I don't know what to tell ya. |
5 | | Lambchop Is a woman
First four songs are early-morning bliss. |
6 | | Soundgarden Down on the Upside
Pretty certain that every song on this album was running through my head at some point today. Spun this for the first time in ages last night and it felt real good, better album than I remembered. Has likely their best song in "Overfloater" and even relatively weak tracks generally have little subtleties that spice them up (such as the piano undercurrent beneath the chorus of "Never Named"). |
7 | | Twenty One Pilots Twenty One Pilots
I understand why these blokes draw so much ire, but I can't help but love their music. Sporadic lame lyrics are forgiven by hooks to die for and clever songwriting. |
8 | | Mineral The Power of Failing
Emo that you spin for euphoria instead of feels. |
9 | | Deftones Gore
In the minority in thinking that the production here suits the music well. Enhances the watery vibe. |
10 | | Autolux Pussy's Dead
"Stop with that soft scene, that hip infection..." |
11 | | Radiohead My Iron Lung
Favorite band, so of course I'll get a song or two stuck in my head during the course of my day... (air-guitars to “My Iron Lung” and “Bodysnatchers” while coworkers and customers aren’t looking) |
12 | | Linkin Park Minutes to Midnight
Could be the nostalgia talking (seeing them live in '08 was my 12-year-old self's dream come true), but I've always felt that this album deserves more credit than it gets. Considering that LP's previous two albums were nu-metal brothers, pulling off a song of the likes of "The Little Things Give You Away" required balls and skill. |
13 | | Weezer Pinkerton
"Across the Sea." That is all.
WHYYYYY AAAARE YOU
SO FAR AAAAAA
WAAAAAY FROOOOM MEEEEE |
14 | | Neurosis Through Silver in Blood
When the line inside the building is nearly out the door, the drive-thru line is nearly out to the street, and you’re one of only three workers trying to handle everything at once, the war-torn imagery of this album starts to feel a mite appropriate (I should consider myself lucky that I’ve never seen an ACTUAL war zone) |
15 | | Stone Sour Come What(ever) May
Not sure why “Through Glass” and “Sillyworld” got stuck in my head since it’s been at least five years since I last heard either song… maybe my brain fished up some nostalgic earworms as a subconscious defense mechanism against stress? |
16 | | Jimmy Eat World Clarity
I don't really get the whole "emo classic" thing tbh, but this album does have some great earworms.
WAIT FOR SOMETHING BETTER
MAAAAAAYBE THAT DOESN'T MEEEEAAANN
UUUSSSSSSSS |
17 | | Dance Gavin Dance Mothership
Of course, when your brain is rifling through music at a breakneck pace, some of those earworms are going to be unwelcome. This album is full of parasites. |
18 | | Gavin Clark Beautiful Skeletons
Gavin Clark >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dance Gavin Dance
"When We Had Faces" is a perfect wind-down song, "Bermondsey Stutter" is just a perfect song. |
19 | | Sunhouse Crazy on the Weekend
Speaking of Gav, this album has lost precisely zero of its magic in the year since I first heard it. One of my top 3 favorite albums of all time at this point. Simply some of the finest displays of emotion and songwriting I've ever heard. |
20 | | My Bloody Valentine Loveless
some random noises from this monumental work of okay-ness |
21 | | Rosie Thomas These Friends of Mine
A compilation of all the music that Mike O'Donnell and Junior Campbell composed for Thomas & Friends during the '80s and '90s would potentially dethrone OK Computer as my favorite album of all time. |
