Bulldog
09.08.10 | Hopefully this series will be just as popular as 'The ABCs of Hip Hop' was. Enjoy guys. Might (and probably will) add descriptions later. |
Deviant.
09.08.10 | Kinda looks exactly like your last couple of lists |
whywontyoudie
09.08.10 | if you're doing additional installments, i recommend adding Jay Electronica and possibly Blu and Exile. |
Bulldog
09.08.10 | "Kinda looks exactly like your last couple of lists"
Also kinda looks like all the recs that are ever given on this site (save Deltron 3030, Atmosphere, Aesop Rock). But I mean it IS the essentials list. Things will get more original as the series progresses. I promise Dev :) |
BigTuna
09.08.10 | I have listened to only one of these and still enjoy hip-hop thoroughly. |

09.08.10 | Assuming that they're ordered in importance. |
SCREAM!
09.08.10 | @Dev cause if this is like the itunes lists he mentions, the other parts of the series are going to cover different waves of the genre and they think those artists should have appeared in the basics part. |

09.08.10 | I want #8 so bad. |
Bulldog
09.08.10 | @BigTuna - Also, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of 14 year old boys that LOVE hip-hop but haven't heard ANY of these. Not dissing your taste, because I don't know what you like, but chances are, if you have heard these, you have higher standards when it comes to, and better knowledge of, the genre. |
Urinetrouble
09.08.10 | nice list but Ill Communication>Paul's Boutique and this lacks the first cypress hill album |
ThirtySixChambers
09.08.10 | i know it's already been mentioned, but i could never make a hip-hop essential list without deltron 3030 |
Bulldog
09.08.10 | Deltron 3030 will probably be on the next list. |
ThirtySixChambers
09.08.10 | cool, cool. how do you feel about the first dr. octagon? |
Bulldog
09.08.10 | 4-4.5 |
ThirtySixChambers
09.08.10 | second? |
Urinetrouble
09.08.10 | dr. octagon 3.5-4 i found the tracks blended at one point through the album and some tracks seemed awkward |
Psilocyanide
09.08.10 | Bulldog and Urine, you spelled 5 wrong. |
Urinetrouble
09.08.10 | Psilo spelled, no one cares wrong |
Bulldog
09.08.10 | cant tell which i like better out of 2 and 1 (prolly 2) and 4 and 5 (prolly 4) |
Urinetrouble
09.08.10 | bulldog which is better? OB4CL or liquid swords |
Bulldog
09.08.10 | imo - OB4CL, easily. although i think i have liquid swords rated a 4.5 and ob4cl, ob4cl wins hands down |
Urinetrouble
09.08.10 | yah me too. producton beats and his voice hold my interest more than liquid swords for some reason |

robertsona
09.08.10 | i think ive listened to all of these at one point but will reget them, thanks
|
Urinetrouble
09.08.10 | pauls boutique is their second best in my opinion because only the music was really great. the rapping was still weak in there careeer. both music and raps were great on ill communication |
Bulldog
09.08.10 | watched a documentary on pac last night. was decent. wish he had lived longer :( |
Maniac!
09.08.10 | oh look, another hiphop list with the most popular hiphop albums ever |
Urinetrouble
09.08.10 | i think if tupac lived longer his music would've gotten mor formulaic and generic and he'd have a period like eminems where he made music and no one cared but then he'd have a semi decent comeback |
taroo
09.08.10 | so... these are the albums I have to listen to if I want to get into hip-hop.
I heard 1, great albums. |

09.09.10 | srsly dude, you make the same fucking list everytime. i thought you left sputnik cause it made you cry or something? |

09.09.10 | Paul's Boutique is the superior Beastie Boys album, well done. |
BigTuna
09.09.10 | @Bulldog
I'm 20 (not 14), and I really don't like the production on these albums, nor most of the lyrical content. Instead of assuming my age and offending my taste, maybe next time you could head over to my profile and see what hip-hop I enjoy. I don't claim to be a hip-hop connoisseur, but I recently have developed an appreciation for it and your stupid fucking elitist attitude isn't appreciated in the least. Maybe I'll get around to these in the future, but for now, I love the stuff I have and like to think I do have decently high standards for the genre. |
