Bulldog
09.06.10 | honestly if you can find a rapper or hip hop group that has a name that starts with y that is decent enough to be on this list, more power to you. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | take out lil wayne through in lupe fiasco. DMX should get the X spot *bark bark*... fuck xzibit give the X spot to DMX. but in all seriousness.... looks about right. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | got it for 'L'. DMX starts with X though, so meh. something for Y thats half decent would be lovely, |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | and for the Y... I guess young jeezy... I mean I didn't like him at all until he collabed with nas... he is what he is. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | no i refuse. i HATE young jeezy |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | my president is black is a good enough song to justify jeezy getting the Y I'd say. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | but DMX is X.... Xzibit is more famous for pimp my ride... DMX was like top dog in 98.... HE IS X... |
This Life is Genocide
09.06.10 | a tribe called quest could technically be considered a t |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | I mean.. young chris of the young guns.... yeah Y is hard. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | yes. but ATCQ > Atmosphere/Aesop Rock and Tupac > ATCQ so thats how shit is. Shit always gets difficult for Q, U, V, W, X, Y, Z, though. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | and who is freddie gibbs??? Fugees - the score.. Lauren Hill is the only female mc who matters. |
PurpleDrank
09.06.10 | solid list bro. r should be the roots though |
MUNGOLOID
09.06.10 | Y = Ying Yang Twinz |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | Freddie Gibbs > Fugees talent wise but just because of name recognition and how long theyve been around, Fugees it is. you should really check out freddie gibbs though. so good |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | I think Young Jeezy is a lil more qualified than the ying yang twinz.... |
Mordecai.
09.06.10 | for fucks sake bulldog no one cares |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | i'll peep the fred gibbs... but the score is a classic. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | lol mungoloid.
Y is just a shit selection |
MUNGOLOID
09.06.10 | the score is definately a classic but that's the ONLY shining moment of The Fugees. |
Masochist
09.06.10 | Xzibit had "Paparazzi," which alone makes him worthy of inclusion. Besides that, DMX has two letters in his name before X, and quite a few people jocking for those D and M spots.
Also...fuck Jeezy. And Yung Joc. And Young Dro. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | Been listening to Young Dro ALOT lately actually. hes pretty cool. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | yeah... the score happened then they parted... |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | DMX>Xzibit ask someone who X is and they know.... Seriously man.... give earl simmons the X spot... he's locked up and it would mean a lot to him... |
MUNGOLOID
09.06.10 | yeah i won't lie, Rubberband Banks is a jam. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | ugh dmx pisses me off so much though |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | check freeze me remix also mungo. its everything Ain't I remix should be. (features gucci and t.i.) |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | DMX pisses you off??? isn't that the point?? DMX is not fit for society, if you listen to to much DMX it will change your demeanor, and you will start committing felonies... he is like 10000 times more legit than pimp my ride xzibit. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | and right from wikipedia: Earl Simmons (born December 18, 1970), better known by his stage name DMX also known as Dark Man X or The Dog or just simply X, is an American rapper and actor who rose to fame in the late 1990s.
or just simply X. |
MUNGOLOID
09.06.10 | have you heard of any of Xzibit's old shit? he used to kill it back then. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | if we are getting technical... Biggie Smalls should be the NOtorious BIG... which is N, where he would take NaS's spot. or would he? We talking bout two of the top five; dead or a live. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | Yea i just had to edit biggie. cuz deciding between those two and ultimately excluding one is just ridiculous. i guess ill edit DMX. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | yeah there is no hip hop with out Biggie and Nas. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | it would have been interesting to see where biggies career would have went, because life after death was a fairly significant fall off from ready to die |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | plus DMX was in Belly, which is right up there with citizen kane as far as movies go.... |
MUNGOLOID
09.06.10 | only saw some of Belly but besides from the AMAZING FUCKING VISUALS!!!!!! 'mazing visuals. the rest of the movie really wasn't that interesting. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | Never seen it. I tend to stay away from movies with rappers who have prominent roles in them. get rich or die tryin was just so blah |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | ooooo I mean... Life After Death was a double album and a double album is often diluted. I definately wouldn't say he significantly fell off with life after death. He branched out his style ie(notorious thugs he rapped as if HE WERE a member of bone thugs and harmony). If you cut down Life After Death to a single disk, you very well have an album every bit as good as ready to die, seriously. If Biggie wouldn't have died; cut jay-z in half basically. We missed out on a decade of some great hip hop from who I consider the Jimi Hendrix of rap. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | yeah belly is one big Hype Williams video... DMX is actually a mediocre actor... NaS on the other hand... well... that's a different story. |
MUNGOLOID
09.06.10 | oh no, that movie makes Belly looks like an artistic masterpiece in comparison. The only real reason to ever see Belly is because it was directed by Hype Williams, one of the greatest (if not) the greatest music video director of all time. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | Yea that's probably true. But he did get sucked into money (lyrically speaking) a bit on L.A.D though. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | god why is it the great ones who always have to die. |
MUNGOLOID
09.06.10 | LAD definately did a 360 from RTD when it came to the themes but that didn't mean it was bad (i think). |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | the opening to belly is like... the best... seriously, but I rarely watch the whole movie.
Yeah I mean.... in Hip-Hop you have to rap about your life if you wanna be true. He had money in LAD, he's rapping about subject matter that was relevant to his life at the time. I mean that's why so many people are turned off to HOVA, cause for the past decade he's been rapping about being a billionaire, but really what do you want him to rap about? I mean he's not slanging coke no more... Same with Biggie, gotta keep it real. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | I mean Ready To Die (4.5) is and always will be better than Life After Death (3.5). Although, Life After Death had the starpower when it came to hits. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | LAD is a classic as well, just not of the status of ready to die. I mean as a rule for everything(music, movies, life etc) the first is usually the best. With the exception of terminator 2: judgement day. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | LAD- notorious thugs, mo money, ten crack, sky's the limit, kick in the door, hypnotize, I love the dough, what's beef? I mean all those songs are fucking awesome, double discs are just difficult. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | Same thing with Big L. Big L's first album was amazing and his second was just meh. Then, he died :/
Nas had Illmatic but then had a really inconsistent career album-wise that didn't showcase his exceptional talent truly |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | yep what prevents NaS from being consider the GOAt is that he put out some absolute shit... like Nastradamus. As far as a quality and quantity career goes... Jay-Z is the GOAt man... all of his albums are pretty good... kingdom come the exception. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | It wasn't even really Nas's fault. I mean, he's sort of to blame by not getting good production for his albums, but as a rapper he himself is great |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | Blueprint 3 was god fucking awful, imo. I didnt even like Reasonable Doubt that much, I think Jay-Z is overrated tbh |
MUNGOLOID
09.06.10 | lyrically, The Blueprint 3 was fucking taint, but i just couldn't deny how catchy some of those tunes off that album were. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | eh i thought it was just ass all around but especially lyrically |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | Bp3 is an above average album by today's standards... Reasonable Doubt is an album right up there with the best of all time. But I might be the biggest jay fan there is, so I'm biased. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | BP3 is a HORRENDOUS album by any standards, especially by older standards. I dislike the misconception that today's rap is bad just because the mainstream stuff is bad. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | ehh it's not horrendous... I mean on to the next one is a banger, DEath of Autotune blew up hot 97. the song with kid cudi is good. Horrendous??? Nah. Def not a classic, but I wouldn't call it horrendous it definitely isn't as bad as nastradamous |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | death of autotune is overrated but decent, the song with kid cudi bored me, and there are banger that are infinitely better than on to the next one. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | i mean, i DID rate what people say is his best album and a rap classic a 3 so that may just be me not liking jay z that much |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | i mean it's one of his worst albums yes... but he's like Jordan on the Wizards now.. just around so future generations can catch a glimpse. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | yeah... re-listen to reasonable doubt with an open mind... maybe you just don't wanna let yourself like Jay-Z? But reasonable doubt is mafiaoso rap at it's finest.... I consider the holy grail of 90's hip hop to be Reasonable Doubt, Illmatic and Ready to Die. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | so hes way past his prime and not that good anymore and is just around for the hell of it? idk man i think early 00's - present NYC is pretty shitty |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | I mean yeah he retired and came back... but even a 40 year old Jordan put up 50 in a game.... HOVA still brings it on occasion. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | i think he needs to hang up the towel rappign wise. he has so much other stuff going on that he can make money from. i guess he really likes doing it idk. like i said im not that big a fan of new york stuff. although MF Doom always slays. cant wait for new Madvillain (!!!!!!) |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | Jay is Favre man... He can stay along around as long as he wants and no one can tell him nothing. |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | damn you and your sports references lol.
I just dont like Jay-Z personally. His new shit is just whack and I'm not THAT partial to his older stuff. I've always liked Nas better. |
DoubtGin
09.06.10 | shouldnt Kanye West be actually W etc..? |
Bulldog
09.06.10 | Nope. |
DarthBlubber
09.06.10 | Great list. Thank Christ that I wasn't around when Lil Wayne was there ahead of Lupe, cause I would have raged! As for Y... Yo Gotti? Again he isn't in the database though... |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | I mean NaS won the beef... this is true Ether killed jay... he acknowledges. But... break it down... Jay's 3 best albums are; Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint(1), Black Album. NaS's 3 best albums are Illmatic,Stillmatic, and God's Son/It was Written depending on who you ask.
Illmatic is better than Reasonable Doubt....slightly... I mean I dunno tho they are kinda on par in all honesty.
But can you really say Stillmatic or God's Son are better than Black Album or Blueprint??
Also, NaS pretty much raps about one topic matter; the black man getting the shaft in a white man's world.... there's no diversity really... Lighten up NaS, cover some other bases, don't be so serious all the time.. But if he did... He wouldn't be NaS. |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | Jay's 2 worst albums are Bp3 and Kingdom Come... both which came out in the past couple years. and they aren't half as bad as the pile of shit that was nastradamous that came out earlier in NaS's career. Jay's discog is larger and more quality than NaS. But it's like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.... |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | and between Jay's two worst albums there was American Gangster... proof he can still bring it... |
SeaAnemone
09.06.10 | no Mike Posner? |
Bandido
09.06.10 | For C I would've gone with Common personally |
illmitch
09.06.10 | yelawolf |
patroneyes
09.06.10 | put DJ Yella for Y |
illmitch
09.06.10 | except yelawolfs actually a good rapper |
patroneyes
09.06.10 | alright |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | C is tough.... Cypress Hill are legends... Clipse are some of my favorites and Common is as well and definitely deserves to be there. |
JustJoe
09.06.10 | Pharoahe Monch (Organized Konfusion included) > Public Enemy |
notorioussam23
09.06.10 | It takes a nation of millions to hold us back. |
Urinetrouble
09.06.10 | y-yelawolf? |
TMobotron
09.06.10 | lol zion i should be z IMO, can't think of a y though |
JustJoe
09.06.10 | No disrespect to Public Enemy intended, but Monch is the illest MC ever (technique wise). No question.
