TheSpirit 09.16.12	A group of friends and I are currently working with the Township to create annual fundraiser to support his family. Although we often joke about and/or call them names, if you read this list please just take one second and give your prayers to this family and all cops, who can die at any moment protecting us.

MichaelSnoxall 09.16.12	Firefighters is more understandable, because they go to put out fires and genuinely protect/save people. And a firefighter burning to death would be horrible. Cops don't generally get into the force to risk their lives to protect people, they're really just there to uphold other peoples' laws.

But yeah, this is sad that the guy was taken at a young age and I hope his family cope and everything. I don't judge all cops off of what happened to my brother, but just from general experience (in my country) the cops are wankers who enjoy to abuse their power. I don't know about where you live, but cops don't join the force to save lives where I am.

ReturnOfTheDnor 09.16.12	Something like this happened in my area not too long ago, only it was barely even in the line of duty. The officer was 24 years old, fresh out of the academy. He was sitting in his car and some guy just came up to the driver side window, brought out a .45 acp, and opened fire into the car. Anybody that hates on cops allows the media and entertainment (movies/tv) to influence their views too often. For every one "corrupt" cop you see on the news, there are hundreds of thousands more that got into the profession to just try and make a difference in their community.

My car has been illegally searched by the police four times now as of two weeks ago. It's ridiculous, and police brutality is a real issue going on, but fuck it. That only exists in movies right?

All the police officers I've known, or even aspiring police officers, never claimed their reasons for being a cop was to risk their lives saving the lives of others. It may be true in other cases, I've just never known it to be the main reason. And cops can save lives, I never disputed that either.

Just like a policeman's job isn't nothing but going out risking their lives to uphold the law. All jobs have many underlying factors. I'm not sitting here describing everything a job entails. How am I talking out of my ass? In general, firefighting is a much more risky career (or even a volunteer job) path compared to police work. From my experience with them, they want it for the exciting career path. Sure, every now and then you may encounter a cop who joined because he wants to be a hero and do nothing but save people, but that's not the whole purpose of the job and is a misconception. And I do have experience with certain things. I'm a qualified member of the SES (State Emergency Services) and I know the difference between a service designed to save people and a service designed to uphold laws. The State Emergency Service is there to help save lives (as well as more menial tasks), while the police force is a service of upholding the law. Both of them can, at times, require life risking moments, but they're different in their conviction. Please, realise I never said police don't risk their lives, and stop being a daft, overbearing cunt. Thank you.
