I've never had sleep paralysis and I hope I never do.
I pretty much dream every night and at least 4-5 dreams during. I'm pretty sure I've experienced lucid
dreaming and have been as long for as I can remember. |
ViperAces
06.20.13 | happend quite a few times to me... its really hard to go back to sleep after it :/ |
demigod!
06.20.13 | ive had it a couple times, i think. didnt scare me much it was just really really surreal. pretty sure i just drifted back to sleep each time that it happened. no hallucinations either, as far as i remember, just the walls of my room. |
Masochist
06.20.13 | First album that comes to mind when I think of sleep paralysis (and actually the reason I've even
heard of it in the first place) is 'El Cielo'. |
SpiritCrusher2
06.20.13 | I'm not sure if this was a sleep paralysis, but it was kinda similar to yours. I was lying in my bed when my cousin entered the room and started walking slowly towards me. I tried to talk to her but she just stared at me and walked like she was in a trance. I wanted to get up but I couldn't. when she finally got to my bed she started choking me while keeping that creepy stare. I couldn't do anything, it was horrible. then her face started to deform and shit and she started to vaporize into nothing and then I've realized I just woke up aaaaand yea... crazy shit |
BigPleb
06.20.13 | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvSx40KCeJo
This is fascinating. |
Masochist
06.20.13 | It probably was. Most people who experience sleep paralysis hallucinate something terrifying, usually a demon or something, because that's the reason the brain comes up with as to why you're still awake but can't move (and it's technically the start of a dream). |
InFiction
06.20.13 | I kind of want to experience it just so I know what it's like. |
BigPleb
06.20.13 | No, you really don't dude haha.
The general feeling of sleep paralysis is one of terror and it basically feels like you are going to die. Your mind projects images of what you see to be the 'terror'. Its fucking awful. |
demigod!
06.20.13 | ever since I heard of a guy "waking up" to a giant mantis perched over him while under sleep paralysis i've been pretty spooked by the subject |
Vakarian12
06.20.13 | just read that trying to move your toes or swallowing can wake you up from sleep paralysis. So yeah. If it ever happens, give that a go! |
BigPleb
06.20.13 | You are awake, that's the scary thing.
Nightmares shouldn't be confused with SP though, people constitute a really bad dream as a form of SP. |
BigPleb
06.20.13 | I worst I had was when I was like 16.
Was lay in my bed and I opened my eyes to go the toilet. Couldn't move my legs and started to panic real bad. Then I like heard an incoherent moan by the stairs outside my door. I was telling myself "wake up, wake up, wake up" but nothing happened. Next thing I know my door has disappeared and there's this like 7ft figure stood about 10ft away from me. The figure started screeching and flashes up in different parts in my room. Then the figure quickly whispered "James, James, James, James" over and over again.
When I woke up I just sat there and didn't know where I was, I honestly thought I'd died or fell back into another dream. |
tommygun
06.20.13 | damn dude holy shit
yeah a lot of the mythology/supernatural heebie jeebie bullshit behind it people say it's a demon sitting on your body or something idk |
tommygun
06.20.13 | like an incubus |
SubtleBody
06.20.13 | i don't know if i've had sleep paralysis, but one time i couldn't sleep all night and i finally started drifting off but it felt like i was still awake and I could hear people walking around on the gravel outside and i was panicking that people were in my backyard, then I snapped out of it and woke up and drifted off again and this time i heard them walking in the gravel and talking and i woke up again and it was fine and then i drifted off again and i could hear someone furiously shaking at my door and lock trying to get in an i was trying to scream for my dog to come attack them but i couldn't scream but then i woke up again. but each time it just felt like i was awake like my eyes felt open and everything and I just assumed it was a really vivid dream. then i rolled over and fell asleep and it was cool |
BigPleb
06.20.13 | Sounds like an intense nightmare dude. |
SubtleBody
06.20.13 | yeah thats what i was thinking |
GnarlyShillelagh
06.20.13 | Damn you guys had some freaky ones, I'm sorry.
Just woke up, got terrible sleep but at least it didn't happen again. I read some about it last night and found tha wiggle your toes thing so I was prepared for another if it absolutely had to happen. Leb and spiritcrusher your guyses stories sound so fucking scary man, I think I read that the whole choking sensation you feel is your body panicking that you can't move and you start having labored breathing and shit.
Also apparently though you can turn your sleep paralysis into lucid dreams and lately I have been having a few LDs so if it happens again I might try it. The whole time it was happening to me I was completely aware that it was sleep paralysis, but I still started freaking out hard just bc I didn't really know how to snap out of it. Idk if being aware of what it is is common (dreaming should be obvious too but it's not) but I'm sure it helps in taking over and making it a lucid dream |
omnipanzer
06.20.13 | I rarely remember my dreams and I've only ever had 1 nightmare... life is good. Now if I can just get this lucidity thing going I'll have tiger blood. |
CrimsonFloyd
06.20.13 | My first time experiencing sleep paralysis, was about two years ago. It wasn't scary, I was simply paralyzed and saw my fan floating above me in my room.
I never got it again until I began getting drunk/popping molly. Almost every time I do these drugs (alcohol and MDMA, no other drugs do this to me), I get sleep paralysis. My first time I was scared shitless as all the clothes on my floor turned into skulls. I began hearing a very scary demonic filtered voice whispering in my ear, as well as some sort of vacuum sucking me into myself. I then saw a friend of mine laying dead on the floor next to my bed.
I also get sleep paralysis when I try to take naps, almost everytime.
The reason these things happen is because doing drugs that mess your melatonin levels causes REM rebound, basically an extreme form of dreaming because you missed some, and it can begin as soon as you close your eyes, before you even sleep. This makes it very easy to have your dream stage overlap with wakefulness, the cause of sleep paralysis. The thing about naps is that unless you take the same nap everyday, your body does not expect to sleep and may cause extremely vivid dreams, or sleep paralysis.
If this is your first sp, don't worry. Once you know what it is, you can play with it like a trip. You can have what feels like "out of body" experiences, by projecting your consciousness somewhere else in the room and existing outside of your body, shit like that I have done many times if it is light outside. |
wabbit
06.20.13 | I'm almost always lucid when I dream now. unfortunately the devil's cabbage really stops the dreams.
Sleep paralysis is awesome cause it scares the living shit out of you and that's always healthy. |
Cygnatti
06.20.13 | I wanna lucid dream!! :[ |
Drummerboy123
06.20.13 | Embrace the feeling of it. It's psychology, if you're freaked out, your mind is gonna intensify the
fear and anxiety.
I've had it around 3 different occasions. The first time I literally could not sleep and just stayed
awake with the lights on listening to some ambient music to chill me out.
Also, I thought it was just natural for your mind to make images up in the dark. That happens to me
all the time, like everynight. Tree branches outside will conform to make faces. It's just your mind
playing games. Relax. |
wabbit
06.20.13 | just don't think ez pz |
Motiv3
06.20.13 | FUCK I've had this about 3-5 times. I didn't even know what it was tbh. Now I know. It's literally the scariest thing and all the times I've had it it weren't dreams where I knew they were dreams. |
Cygnatti
06.20.13 | I once had a really really clear dream. I was a really tragic and stressful one, life began to suck: failing grades, dad died, no internet (the worst one probs!). I realized it was a dream because I said something that I would never say in real life. I told my mom that I loved her. |
Chortles
06.20.13 | wow what kind of bitch doesn't love their mom |
SowerKraut
06.20.13 | What drummerboy said, if you relax into it you could reach the point of astral projection= far better than lucid dreams.
I've had a number of sleep paralysis, so I don't find them frightening any more. That's key to having a OOB or lucid dream is to conquer the fear associated with these things. To name a few of my experiences:
•A wolf standing over me, barking, teeth bared, right in my face
•My brother pulling me from the bed and beating me
•One in which I was a colossus made of light, but I thought something had stricken me and I slowly fell over. I thought I had died.
•An OOB where I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror to see my facial features moving around on the face and neck. Took some time for me to register what was happening, and got pulled back into my body and into sleep paralysis.
• One with several auditory/hypnagogic hallucinations. The most memorable of the sounds were a guy moaning "Why god, why" over and over and another angrily shouted "Don't! Don't fucking do that here!"
• People around me saying they are going to kill me while I'm immobile.
• One where I was infused within the wall and watched as my sleeping body was projecting another body. The projected body would spin around extremely fast and there was this unnatural whirling sound.
• Another where I was halfway off my bed, my computer resting on me. |
olivianigma
06.20.13 | i've lucid dreamed all my life but i didn't experience sleep paralysis until a couple of months ago. probably one of the most terrifying things i've experienced |
Vakarian12

06.21.13 | Damn it man I keep trying to get into SP but I usually just end up bored/asleep instead. Any tips? |
sleepysilverdoor
06.22.13 | So I read through this thread last night and before falling to sleep i was thinking "i hope i dont
have sleep paralysis." Well, this wasnt really sleep paralysis but it was a weird dream. I was in
class in school and the teacher got mad at one of my classmates for doing something and i defended my
classmate because he didnt do anything intentionally wrong and then i guess the teacher was mad at me
and was going to get me back or something. Then, in the last stage of the dream, i was lying in bed,
and from somewhere in my room a freaky little boy (i guess this was some form of the teacher or
something) came and stood by my bed and then i woke up. |
Uranium
06.22.13 | Trying with all your strength to move your muscles or ligaments but can't because for some reason you're completely locked down is one of the worst dreams. |
R6Rider
06.22.13 | @Uranium - Yup. What causes them for me is falling asleep in weird positions.
They've never been associated with bad dreams, thankfully. |
Uranium
06.22.13 | Someone was trying to kill me and I was trying to fight/run but I couldn't move any part of my body.
Then my pov would switch between me desperately fighting my paralysis unsuccessfully and a bird's eye
view showing the killer slowly getting closer to my body. 'Twas fucked. |
R6Rider
06.22.13 | That's funny Uranium cause I've had plenty of dreams like that but not associated with paralysis.
I can run like an animal in my dreams but can't put up a fight lol. |
Uranium
06.22.13 | Maybe your past animal lives come back to you in your dreams!!! |
