Ecnalzen
10.04.12 | Black Swan is my least favorite. I think I enjoy Wake of Determination the most. |
IndianaWarLord
10.04.12 | yeah they're def interchangeable. |
TheSupernatural
10.04.12 | I've barely listened to them, I put a couple of their songs on my iPod though. |
Ecnalzen
10.05.12 | Didn't dig The Constant, huh? I thought it was awesome when I first got it, but it wore off pretty quick. |
Atari
10.05.12 | 3 will always be their best |
ReturnToRock
10.05.12 | When I saw "hard rock" up there, I wondered if I had the right SOTY. Apparently I do.
Band is NOT hard rock. Band is emo-pop-punk. |
nononsense
10.05.12 | Should be 3,4,2,1. Are they on hiatus or something? I have heard no news for this band for a couple years now. |
Atari
10.05.12 | lol they are NOT emo pop punk sorry. |
ZilbelPing
10.05.12 | The only song I've heard by these guys is "And the Hero Will Drown" and it's really sweet.
"Band is emo-pop-punk."
It's DEFINITELY not emo and it's not pop punk. I'd say they're post hardcore. |
sniper
10.05.12 | they are most definitely pop-punk. they are also most definitely too shitty to be worth an argument. |
Ecnalzen
10.05.12 | I don't know. The Constant came out in 2010, so it hasn't been that long since they had an album.
Just ignore him, Atari. This is the guy that thinks Foo Fighters are power pop after all. |
Atari
10.05.12 | @sniper, they are pretty generic yeah but who doesn't like until the day i die or anthem of our dying day? |
sniper
10.05.12 | lol power pop. everyone knows foo fighters are butt-rock. |
Atari
10.05.12 | foo fighters have some okay stuff but are like the most overrated band of all time. |
sniper
10.05.12 | i liked those songs, yeah. 9 years ago when they came out. but then i grew up and learned about better music. |
Atari
10.05.12 | lol |
Atari
10.05.12 | @sniper, why don't u rate albums? I went to see this "better" music you were referring to but there is 1 rating lol |
Ecnalzen
10.05.12 | I liked SOTY a lot when they first came out. It's been steadily declining since after Wake though.
"Overrated." I am so sick of that word, lol. It gets thrown around a lot on this website. |
BallsToTheWall
10.05.12 | 2 sucks. |
sniper
10.05.12 | that album is indubitably better than anything by soty. but i don't rate albums anymore because i felt like the ratings were making me think differently about how much i enjoyed albums. like putting a rating on something was making it hard for me to think about albums as freely as before. the ratings were starting to dictate the way i felt about music, instead of reflecting the way i felt about it. i have a last.fm, go look there. |
Atari
10.05.12 | hmm interesting point. okay will do. I tried getting my last fm set up but it's been a pain in the ass. |
ReturnToRock
10.05.12 | Tell me how Anthem Of Our Dying Day is hard rock and not pop punk.
Tell me how Learn To Fly is not a power pop song. And Monkey Wrench for that matter. |
Atari
10.05.12 | nah I'd rather you just keep being ignorant and thinking they're pop punk ; D |
Atari
10.05.12 | j/k return to rock, I can see some pop punk elements but it's like pop punk mixed with post hardcore or mainstream rock not just straight up pop punk. they are nothing like blink 182 or NFG or any other pop punk band. |
ReturnToRock
10.05.12 | I've listened to a couple of their songs. Sounded like pre-shit era MCR to me. I mean when I think hard rock I think AC/DC. |
truekebabpower
10.05.12 | Tell me how And the hero will drown is pop punk.
Tell me how Low is a power pop song. |
truekebabpower
10.05.12 | When I think of ACDC I think generic dad rock and the only band that uses a metronome as a drummer |
Atari
10.05.12 | lol i wouldn't classify story of the year as hard rock either though. |
ReturnToRock
10.05.12 | "...and the only band that uses a metronome as a drummer."
That would be Bon Jovi.
Nah, I actually agree, I much prefer their two interim drummers (the Simons) rather than Phil Rudd. He lacks in the break/fill department, especially on their last album.
And I'm curious about that word "generic". I know its usage in real-life, but what is its definition here on Sputnik? It's thrown around all the time but I'm not sure what it means. I'd say "generic" was something like Ke$ha, Pitbull, any other artist indistinguishable from their peers. AC/DC (and Green Day, and Nirvana) have a recognisable sound, and pretty much pioneered their respective genres (or at least the second wave of them). So I don't see how they're "generic". |
Atari
10.05.12 | ACDC is the shit. |
ReturnToRock
10.05.12 | *Waits for someone to quote that post and cross out the 'the' for lulz*
|
Sirob
10.05.12 | eew story of the year |
IndianaWarLord
10.05.12 | page avenue is absolutely pop-punk...then they evolved. so try listening to more than their debut before defining their genre. what i like most about SOTY is that whereas most rock bands get softer and more marketable they actually did what they wanted made their music heavier. they couldve easily made page avenue pt 2 and kept their mainstream popularity going |
ReturnToRock
10.05.12 | ^Fair point, I did only listen to a couple of songs years ago. Still don't see them being hard rock, though. But fair point nonetheless. |
truekebabpower
10.05.12 | I guess calling Acdc generic was stupid, I meant that they bore the fuck out of me, more so than story of the year, but I'm a drummer so that might be it |
Ecnalzen
10.05.12 | Yeah, pretty sure the SOTY debut was mostly to fit into the scene that was happening at the time. It was when screamo was a popular word. They turned into more of a post-hardcore band with some rock and punk elements.
As for Foo Fighters, you are only giving two examples for their "power pop" sound. They have 7 CDs. That's a very small percentage of their music. Listen to Low, All My Life, White Limo, Come Back, Rope, Bridge Burning, The Colour and the Shape...
The only thing I like about AC/DC is Angus Young. Dude is pretty good at the guitar. |
