Frank Zappa Top 5
Out of his vast works, this is the 5 i would call his best. List is in order.
The Grand Wazoo
To me, this is as close to musical perfection as you can get. This is the side of Zappa i prefer, no jokes, satirical comments just music.
The easiest to get into, but thats the beauty of it. On another day this would take first place. "Son of Mr Green Genes" is my favourite song of all time.
I suppose i must be a sucker for his earlier work! On this he demonstrated more of his satirical side, but only in small amounts, and even they were catchy songs. I think this also maybe one of his most accessible works. Title track is pure awesome.
Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar
I think the name of the album sums up what i sometimes feel about zappa, his work was so varied and that apart from being what made him so great could also be his biggest problem, i would often listen to whole albums of pure comedy songs just waiting for some music. While his other albums show his composing skills, this proves him to be such an innovative guitarist. Dreamy stuff.
London Symphony Orchestra, Vol. 1
Of his orchestral works, this is the one i prefer. All Zappa has immense replay value, but this is the one i come back to so often because there is so much to find.
yes to this except joes garage over london symphony orchestra (which i havent heard but yeah)
ah joes garage is awesome, but trust me give london symphony... a listen, its soooo good.
I disagree with this list but most of these are great nonetheless
i really dont think there is a better zappa album than grand wazoo, but fair play.
what would your top 5 be?
i really need to hear more zappa. i have hot rats, apostrophe, and we're only in it for the money. they are all really good but i would have to say hot rats is the best, especially since i have it on vinyl.
take me down where the huskees go and dont you eat that yellow snow!!
solid list... if you made this a top ten i would include Uncle Meat, Freak out, were only in it for the $, and i know its his most commercially successful album, but i love over-nite sensation, as well as " ' "
these are prolly my fave cause i got them on vinyl and so i listen to them the most...
... 2 and 4 would make my list,
i need to listen to the grand wazoo, i acutally dono if ive heard it...
freak out and uncle meat would be in my top 10, probably weasels ripped my flesh aswell.
and yeah man, the grand wazoo is a must, zappa in his prime for me.
shit i forgot waka jawaka, that would take 5th if i'd of thought of it.
