eternium 09.17.10	A shit load of hardcore bands and post-hardcore bands have considered themselves a part of punk in general. That doesn't change the fact that the band SOUNDS hardcore.

ConsiderPhlebas 09.17.10	Just because they influenced a scene doesn't mean they're not included. They set out to create a new type of hardcore punk, and succeeded. I don't think the creator of any art is automatically the authority on that art, and they certainly could be called post-hardcore. But saying categorically that they are not hardcore, when they say they are, seems odd.

ConsiderPhlebas 09.17.10	Yeah, because that's the same. They tapped into the attitude of aggressive punk and called it hardcore; just like a human saying they're an alligator. And their label aswell, and 99% of their fans. No way are they hardcore.

eternium 09.17.10	That was ConsiderPhlebas who said that. Not me. They influenced nearly every hardcore and post-hardcore band to come after them, yes, but the music that they made is still hardcore nonetheless.
fromtheinside 09.17.10	no. hardcore existed then. it did NOT sound like refused. hardcore exists now, it sounds a bit like refused. this does not make refused hardcore, they were just able to bridge the gap. imagine that album bombed and nobody drew inspiration from it, would we be calling it hardcore today?
eternium 09.17.10	It's still hardcore... Most of Refused's influences were hardcore. They just took that, shaped it into what they wanted to play (something called originality), and a lot of bands were influenced by that themselves. That's like saying Minor Threat weren't hardcore because they didn't sound exactly like Bad Brains, but they still affected every hardcore band to come after them.
