09.09.10 | Well, 14's artwork won't show up for some reason. This is my gift to anyone who wants more hardcore. I'll also take recs if given. |

LegendofPittman
09.09.10 | I am loving this list eternium, although I prefer Modern Life is War over Defeater.
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see it at first glance. |
eternium
09.09.10 | I like Defeater slightly more. |
LegendofPittman
09.09.10 | ... A duel to the death it must be.
na jk, I only like MLiW slightly over Defeater.
Both are awesomeness |
eternium
09.09.10 | Defeater wins because it still exists. |

09.09.10 | Good. I put Fresh Fruit for Rotting vegetables 3rd on my list. |
eternium
09.09.10 | There's a bunch here that I find better. |
SeaAnemone
09.09.10 | I really miss the boat on some hardcore that's really really heralded (Verse, Have Heart), but every so often I get REALLY into a record (Dangers, Unbroken, Rorschach). |
Bulldog
09.09.10 | why isnt blink 182 on here |
eternium
09.09.10 | That sounds like you "miss the boat" on the more melodic stuff. |
eternium
09.09.10 | OH SHIT, I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT BLINK 182. |
Alexd93
09.09.10 | Blink-182...hardcore?.. |
eternium
09.09.10 | Totally. |

09.09.10 | Whatever you say. |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | i see some good stuff here. could really benefit from disembodied, coalesce, integrity, kill your idols, with honor, as the sun sets, akimbo, loma prieta. annnnnnd refused are not hardcore. |
eternium
09.17.10 | I have Coalesce, need to listen to more Integrity, have heard As the Sun Sets, will get Disembodied,
and I don't see how Refused are not hardcore.
Also just got Tragedy. |
ConsiderPhlebas
09.17.10 | Great list. Always bemused at the people who say Refused weren't hardcore. They called themselves hardcore for fuck's sake. |
eternium
09.17.10 | WE LACK THE MOTIONNNN TO MOVE THE NEW BEAT.
They're far more experimental than most hardcore bands, but they're still hardcore or at least post-hardcore. |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | yeah tragedy are realllly good. both vengeance and their s/t which i think is their best.
i'm glad you're bemused phlebas |
ConsiderPhlebas
09.17.10 | I just always thought that the band and their label might know what genre they were playing. The Shape of Post-Hardcore to Come? |
eternium
09.17.10 | What should I get for Starkweather?
And hardcore is a subgenre of punk, if you forgot. |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | The Shape of Hardcore To Come?
if i'm not mistaken, which i'm not, post-hardcore is a bastard child to punk as well. just because they influence a scene doesn't mean they're included. |
This Life is Genocide
09.17.10 | 123
edit: at fti |
eternium
09.17.10 | A shit load of hardcore bands and post-hardcore bands have considered themselves a part of punk in general. That doesn't change the fact that the band SOUNDS hardcore. |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | nobody is arguing punk. we all know punk is the mother of these core genres. |
ConsiderPhlebas
09.17.10 | Just because they influenced a scene doesn't mean they're not included. They set out to create a new type of hardcore punk, and succeeded. I don't think the creator of any art is automatically the authority on that art, and they certainly could be called post-hardcore. But saying categorically that they are not hardcore, when they say they are, seems odd. |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | i'm an alligator! does that make me a reptile? your argument is flawed. |
eternium
09.17.10 | It also makes you an alligator. They're hardcore while being punk. But they're closer to the hardcore sound than the original punk rock. |
ConsiderPhlebas
09.17.10 | Yeah, because that's the same. They tapped into the attitude of aggressive punk and called it hardcore; just like a human saying they're an alligator. And their label aswell, and 99% of their fans. No way are they hardcore. |
americanmusicmachine
09.17.10 | hey guys what's going on?
btw i'm totally dling 33! TITS HEHE! |
eternium
09.17.10 | I'm talking about the music itself.. not what the band calls itself. The music is hardcore punk, albeit more dynamic and experimental. |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | that's the first time you've said something other than "they call themselves hardcore thus they're hardcore." all refused did was create a branch for other bands to grow from. |
ConsiderPhlebas
09.17.10 | They didn't just call themselves hardcore; that was poorly phrased. They deliberately made hardcore punk. |
eternium
09.17.10 | That was ConsiderPhlebas who said that. Not me. They influenced nearly every hardcore and post-hardcore band to come after them, yes, but the music that they made is still hardcore nonetheless. |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | no. hardcore existed then. it did NOT sound like refused. hardcore exists now, it sounds a bit like
refused. this does not make refused hardcore, they were just able to bridge the gap. imagine that
album bombed and nobody drew inspiration from it, would we be calling it hardcore today? |
eternium
09.17.10 | It's still hardcore... Most of Refused's influences were hardcore. They just took that, shaped it
into what they wanted to play (something called originality), and a lot of bands were influenced by
that themselves. That's like saying Minor Threat weren't hardcore because they didn't sound exactly
like Bad Brains, but they still affected every hardcore band to come after them. |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | you guys are putting wayyyy too much into influence. |
eternium
09.17.10 | It's still hardcore. |
ConsiderPhlebas
09.17.10 | Punk was always more about attitude and message than stylistic defintions. Hardcore punk was and is the more aggressive, vehement element. |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | hardcore punk is a redundant statement. |
eternium
09.17.10 | Anyway, I'm eventually going to get around to these recs. |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | good. also, no entombed? i know they probably fall in the same category as refused in terms of genre
tags but at least they resemble it more. |
eternium
09.17.10 | Entombed are death metal. |
patroneyes
09.17.10 | i dont really think 4 is hardcore...or 3 either for that matter |
fromtheinside
09.17.10 | with grind resemblances staking the case for hardcore lists. |
eternium
09.17.10 | They're very Discharged influenced, but not close enough. |
patroneyes
09.17.10 | "One of the first and most important hardcore bands made of black Rastafarian that also has reggae songs." how many hardcore bands are made of black rastafarians that also play reggae lol |
eternium
09.17.10 | Just another reason why the Bad Brains are awesome. |
patroneyes
09.17.10 | no shit |
