06.05.10 | Logic = objective... and I wasn't implying that they mean the same thing... I just cba to change the list title... because the list theme kinda changed halfway though...

06.05.10 | Wtf Brazil rules.
Watch Delicatessen. |

06.05.10 | I actually didn't really like 4. |
BallsToTheWall
06.05.10 | Equilibrium. Needs more Munich, Michael Collins, Lord Of War, Green Street Hooligans, and Planet Terror. |
Hyperion1001
06.05.10 | I loved Equilibrium, even though it had a pretty big plot hole.
Wasn't as good as The Matrix, but at least it kept it's integrity and didn't make something as awful as Matrix: Reloaded and Matrix: Revolutions.
Also, this list needs more John Carpenter's The Thing. One of the best, if not the best, sci-fi horror movies ever made. |
Romulus
06.05.10 | Yeah I wasn't a huge Memento fan either, it got really predictable after you kind of get adjusted to it. |
Mevz
06.05.10 | @Hyperion1001: Yeah I'll agree with you there, but then again a lot of good films have huge plotholes...
@people dissing memento: again I have to agree, but to be fair to it, it stands out as a film that's at least trying something new, I still enjoyed greatly.
Quite a few films being rec'd that I haven't seen, I'll have to check them out over summer. |

06.05.10 | Equilibrium was pretty badass! |
Dryden
06.05.10 | needs the black and white twilight zone series |

06.05.10 | American Beauty. gogogogogo. |

06.05.10 | Didn't like Gattaca.
Loved A Beautiful Mind, though I have a huge man-crush on Russel Crowe. |

06.05.10 | 10 - Good
9 - Great
8 - Fuckin' amazing
7 - Fuckin' amazing x2
6 - Great
5 - Okay
4 - Great
3 - Only underrated movie on this list, its actually really good
2 - Eh
3 - Good |
Eclectic
06.05.10 | Gattaca has a good idea at its foundation, and I loved it in that respect, but the plot felt tacked on and ultimately pointless. |
Yotimi
06.05.10 | Brazil is awesome, good call there. |
Zion
06.05.10 | All of these movies were well advertised, and are fairly well known. This list should have one movie: Primer. |
ninjuice
06.05.10 | The half I've seen so far (7, 5, 4, 2, 1) are excellent, but Memento's pretty well known to people who are seriously into film, and most people period know A Beautiful Mind (won at least 2 Oscars including BP).
I will agree with Leon and Equilibrium though (why does it have to compared to The Matrix? Awesome action scenes and dystopia = just like The Matrix?)
How bout some foreign (or non-English, for the picky) films? I think lots of people - at least in the US - haven't seen, say, The Lives of Others or Brodre. |
couldwinarabbit
06.05.10 | @ninjuice I agree with the foreign film.
What is the WW2 movie that is about German's in a U-boat? It was one of the best movies I have scene, it was really atmospheric and long and really really sad. |
ninjuice
06.06.10 | Sounds like Das Boot, although I haven't actually seen it. |
Asiatic667
06.06.10 | Equilibrium lol, i guess your favorite movie genre is shitcore |

And no we're talking about Equilibrium not Crank. |

06.06.10 | Equilibrium was pretty cool |
Hyperbore
06.06.10 | Did you mean to say overrated? Because none of these movies are unknown OR unappreciated. |
Mevz
06.06.10 | I don't know where you are, but here in the UK most of these films were barely advertised, and most of the people I know have never seen/heard of them.
@Zion: I completely forgot! I watched Primer for the first time abotu a week ago, it was great.
"What's worse, thinking you're being paranoid or knowing you should be?"
Also in retrospect I think I should have added A Scanner Darkly to this list. |

06.06.10 | Tim Westwood? Is that you? |
Mevz
06.06.10 | No. |
Hyperbore
06.06.10 | Most of them weren't advertised much here, either. And most people don't know them. But most people that actually care about movies, know them very well. |
Mevz
06.06.10 | Fair point. It's a great shame that those who do not care about movies end up watching the awful popularised tripe that ends up wiping the box office. There's a plethora of films that deserve more attention than they get tbh. |
foreverendeared
06.06.10 | I agree with 10 and 7. I've seen all of these except 3, which I've never heard of. And all of these that I've seen, pretty much anyone who enjoys good movies has seen and know, so I don't know where you're going with underrated or not watched enough. The Lives of Others, now that movie is one that not many people in America have seen, and it's an incredible film. |
Mevz
06.06.10 | I've never gotten round to watching The Lives of Others, I always thought it looked good... maybe tonight is the night...
Really need some sort of sputnikmovies equivalent... any ideas? |
Bandido
06.06.10 | I went to screening of Memento for the Tribeca Film Fest and afterwards they had a sit down interview with Guy Pearce and the other guy in that movie with the mustache (I forget his name) and the writer (Johnathan Nolan?). It was pretty sick and it's a great movie |
iarescientists
06.06.10 | list made me lol |
Inveigh
06.06.10 | all of these movies are great but only a few would count as underrated for me (2, 3 and maybe 7 and 10). A Scanner Darkly would be a good addition, The Way of the Gun and 12 Monkeys too. also, what Balls said. |
Maniac!
06.06.10 | love 6 and 9 |
