Top 10 Mac Lethal Songs
Pretty self-explanatory. These are my favorite songs from my favorite emcee (with youtube links cause I want y'all to peep 'em). For the purpose of this list, I'm going to leave the new one out because it's too early to pick my favorites off that yet.
Love Potion Collection 3
Parliament Menthol Lights: this is the very first Mac Lethal song I fell in love with, off the first Mac album I ever got -- picked it up when he opened for P.O.S. like 5 years ago. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yitZmCg8GHw)
The Love Potion Collection
Love Potion: can't find a youtube link for this, but it was another early favorite of mine. one of my favorite lines is the opener: "yo attack of the 50 foot teddy bear, holding a lumber jack axe and a picture of Oprah. I've got a three-headed fiancee with seven eyes, incubating dinosaur eggs under the sofa." yeah it doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's party of why it's so fun -- just a fuck ton of punch lines.
Contact High. Tough call between this and the title track, but this is a seriously good EP that shows off the more lyrical and old-school backpack rap side of his early stuff. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmaIn_5cBBQ)
Men Are From Mars, Pornstars Are From Earth
A Cool Breeze. wanted to throw in an old-school Mac song from his first album, and this one's the easiest to find. but it definitely rules (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWIiolyxDKg)
The Original 11:11 Sessions
Halo. Some of the lyrics from this song were later used on his classic Ashes to Ashley from Love Potion 4, but I'm one of the people who likes this version better (even though Ashley is tha business). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQPAWux9XUQ
The Love Potion Collection 4
Take Me in My Sleep. One of the songs that just devestated me the first time I heard it -- because of some health issues that were going on with my mom at the time. amazing song. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtMeld5bpmc)
The Love Potion Collection 2
Smart Dumb Person. this Love Potion has a lot of Mac's best work on it, and this is probably my favorite song from it. Just clever and witty lyricism out the ass with a ridiculous amount of catchiness. can't find a link, get the album fuckers.
The Love Potion Collection 5
Manifesto. Toss up between this and Stir Crazy as my fav off this (incredible) Love Potion volume, I love the lyrics on this one for a lot of reasons, but again, mostly it's a combination of cleverness and relatability. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMjoDrXsS3k)
The Original 11:11 Sessions
Epilogue. Just a devastatingly emotional song (once again). Listen, and feel your heart drop into your stomach. (damnit, can't find a link for this either... GET THE ALBUM)
Backward. Admittedly, this album's hit or miss at times, but it has some seriously fantastic songs on it -- this being my favorite. Just wait til he switches his flow up about halfway through... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUta27xEOW4)
sooooooo many songs I had to leave off either because there just weren't links or not enough room (Absolutely Nowhere, Toad, In My Dreams, Bloom, October on the Beach, Earth By Earth, Jenna Loves Lethal, Mallory Knox, Black Widow Spider, Know it All, Lithium Lips, Stir Crazy, Speak Low to name a few...)
: ) also, not ranked.
Cool, not heard a few of these. 5 is so great.
Whatever song says Wilco is great is his best.
the two og 11:11 songs on here arent as good as absolutelyn owhere imo
yeah Absolutely Nowhere is great, and there are times when that's my favorite from the record. Honestly, each song on OG 11:11 has spent some time as my favorite at one point or another. The lyrics to Halo are just endlessly fascinating though.
Spec that would be Calm Down Baby off 11:11, great song, but not my favorite.
also, one more thing...
so in less than 3 days, new Mac has three 4.5 reviews, 24 ratings with a 4.1 average, 18 digs and about 300 total comments in the threads
yet it's not in the popular albums section...? what's the deal! also, one of those 3 epic reviews deserves a feature... just my opinion...
not as much as Backward though.
Tough to do but I would go
1. Absolutely Nowhere
2. Ashes to Ashley
3. Baby Powder
4. I'm Odd
6. Take Me In My Sleep
7. Calm Down Baby
8. War Drum
10. Bareknuckle Chris
Pit have you heard the new Mixtape yet?
yeah if I'd included songs off the new one Citrus would probably have made it. Feel it in the Air and War Drum would've been close too.
thought you would have Ashes to Ashely. Fuck that song rules.
eh, I'm not a huge fan of the other guy's verse on Ashes to Ashley, and while I love the shit out of Mac's verse -- it's mostly just taken from Halo (I think at the time he put out Ashes to Ashley, he thought OG 11:11 would never see the light of day and wanted to get some of his better lyrics on a track).
don't get me wrong though, I do love the shit out of that song.
North Korean BBQ m'fucka
lol me, Hans and Phleb have all reviewed it already, and it only came out on Monday afternoon
List is full of win.
I love the beat on Ashes to Ashley
yeah it's definitely an epic beat, no doubt about that
I mean, there's no excuse not to check that song out if you even have a passing interest in Mac Lethal
5 is my favorite.
yeah there are times when that's my favorite Mac song too. probably his coolest lyrics over the course of an entire song too (probably, lol, I always change my mind when it comes to stuff like this)
