03.23.11 | top 5 are hip hop, bottom 5 are not. none of it's in any sort of "ranked" order or nothin
also, didn't include Radiohead or Defeater because they're on everyone's lists (though they are good). P-Monch and Destroyer just missed the cut.

omni, 9 rules. it's r&b (even has a little autotune, not much though), but it's awesome.
Dwight Howard is the only other acceptable answer for MVP, but the issue with him is that his team currently has like the 6th or 7th best record in the league, which would be the worst ever team to have an MVP on it.
still, he'd be my 2nd pick. |

03.23.11 | Oh I agree. tbh Lakers and Bulls are the only 2 teams I'm legitimately worried about. No one else seems all that scary. We've been doing alright enough with a gutted squad and major injuries but The Bulls/Lakers are possessed right now and could ride that momentum into the playoffs. |
JarethCutestory
03.23.11 | Inveigh, you're absolutely right about the record. It's a shame the Magic have become an inconsistent team that plays only on nights they feel like playing. Being a fan for the past 20 years, seeing this years team play sometimes makes me long for the heart and hustle days. I still think we have a great shot at making a run in the playoffs, and I'm definitely not terrified of the Bulls. But we'll see. |
Inveigh
03.23.11 | I'm just worried about Thibs playing our starters too much (though he finally decided he'd rest them last night with a 47 point lead)
yeah the Celts will be beastly of the O'Neal boys are healthy come playoff time (and the Big 3 hold up, which they prolly will). but if the Bulls get the 1 seed... watch out |
Inveigh
03.23.11 | gonna go ahead and repeat myself here:
I could use metal recs from this year too (preferably similar to Ulcerate or Mitochondrion, but I'm up for anything)
also, Mr. Bluth, you SHOULD be terrified of the Bulls... did you see what we did to the Hawks last night? on the second night of a road back-to-back (i.e. the hardest game to play in pro hoops)? be afraid, son, be very afraid... |
JarethCutestory
03.23.11 | Thibs made the Bulls what they are. If anything, Rose winning the MVP will be a reflection of Thibs impact to the team. Dude has turned a team of non defenders into a scrappy bunch. I'm not saying it'd be a cakewalk, but I'm not worried about the Bulls as much as I am about the Celtics. The Celtics are in our heads and after last years nonsense, I can see us losing to them in a 7 game series.
The Bulls don't have anybody that can defend Dwight, and I assure you we won't be outrebounded as badly as we were in the past 2 games.
I'm also very comfortable with letting Rose beat us by shooting jumpshots all night. He's improved, but he's going to have to attack the basket to beat the Magic in a 7 game series. Dwight won't allow that. |
Inveigh
03.23.11 | we don't need to stop Dwight -- that's the key to beating the Magic. Just defend him one on one, with all the big man depth we have (Asik, Gibson and Thomas all off the bench) we can just hack him all night and make him earn it at the line. hell, he scored 41 against us and we still won by double digits (2nd time we played this year)
and I don't know where we got the rep as a team of non-defenders... Noah, Brewer, Deng, Asik, Gibson and Bogans were all known primarily as defenders long before Thibs got here (well, Asik's a rookie, but the reason he was drafted was for defense/shot-blocking). Thibs has been incredible, but there were already pieces in place for this to be an excellent defensive team.
and if I have to pick one player in the NBA to go to war with in a 7 game series, it's D-Rose (maybe just a shade of homerism lol, because Kobe, Wade and Pierce are all legit picks too) |
BigHans
03.23.11 | The Magic should bring back Scott Skiles, Dennis Scott, and Nick Anderson. |
Inveigh
03.23.11 | ^fuck yeah |
BigHans
03.23.11 | Those missed free throws fucked with Nicks head. Dude turned into like a 40% FT shooter after that famous "Nick the Brick" escapade. |
JarethCutestory
03.23.11 | Noah's defense on Dwight is laughable. He's a defender in the mold of AV, as he flails around and
can annoy the shit out of you until you finally get frustrated and want to knock him on his ass.
Asik is a rook, but he is promising. But he's not a stopper..yet. Bogans..lol. I know more than
enough about Bogans. He's another "hard nose" guy that will work, but he isn't stopping Nick Young,
let alone a superstar or even second tier superstar. Brewer has length, and is decent. Deng works
hard. But Thibs is the main reason that team is that good defensively.
Yeah, that's definite homerism.
Again, don't count on the Magic shooting 23% from beyond the arc, and without tallying up the
numbers, a miserable percentage from anywhere else as a team. Defend Dwight one on on in the
playoffs, and I assure you our shooters will make you pay. |
JarethCutestory
03.23.11 | We're forever haunted by those missed ft's. Wince did a great job at making us remember them last year (though it's not the reason we lost). |

03.23.11 | I like chicago against anyone in the east, although boston would be a tough out. I think if chicago can keep home court advantage they will have a good chance. But then they will probably have the lakers or spurs in the finals......the bulls could do it but it won't be easy |
CrisStyles
03.23.11 | Same, I think the bulls can beat anyone in the east, the toughest challenge being boston but I would love to see that series. |
mothercountry
03.23.11 | Getting the one seed is huge out east, without thinking about home court. First, you get to play the Pacers or some other shit stain team 10 games under .500. Avoiding the Knicks or some other scrappy team in the first round. Plus you avoid the 2/3 seeds (Boston, Miami) until the conference finals . . . |
Hawks
03.23.11 | I still say Boston is the favorite just because of experience, but I think the Bulls have a great shot to knock them off. Rose is just too good to contain. Don't think the Heat are gonna do it this year either. |

03.23.11 | lol wow this turned weird. thanks for the recs Hawks, have a few of those already, but will get the rest for sure (Vreid's at the top of the metal list now, I remember you rec'd it to me awhile back)
Cutestory, I was just saying that those players all had the tools to be defensive specialists even before Thibs got there, they just hadn't played great team defense because they were being coached by Vinny Del Negro. But Deng has played Pierce and LeBron as tough as anyone in the playoffs over the last two years -- no denying that. also, this doesn't make sense:
"Defend Dwight one on on in the playoffs, and I assure you our shooters will make you pay."
no, defending Dwight one on one is the way to ensure your shooters DON'T make us pay. Because defending him one on one allows our defenders to stay home on the shooters, rather than leave someone open to help on a double-team. |
