Epic Purim List

So not only is today the vernal equinox and my rbirthday, it is also Purim, the Jewish holiday in rwhich it is pretty much required that you get rsloshed (seriously.) So in honor of this rTrichotomous Rex of special occasions, here's a rlist of my recent (and some historical) jams.
1Boris
Tu, La La

This song is bound to blow my speakers out. I cannot stop listening to this
album. At all. Help me.
2Talking Heads
Lifetime Piling Up

One of the best Talking Heads songs, released to promote their "Sand In
The Vaseline" compilation.
3Brandt Brauer Frick
Mi Corazon

This is a pure gem of a track.
4Motek
Abused

I was listening to this song while driving last weekend, and everything the
chorus hit I would impulsively floor it without realizing it. During the second
or third chorus I reached 100mph in my Honda CR-V before noticing. No one
on the highway, this song blaring, it just has to happen.
5Dead Spirits' Dance
Cold Wind - A Dream Vision

This song dominates.
6Xavier Rudd
Dark Shades Of Blue

I can't listen to this album without remembering the first time I saw this guy
live. Best show I have been to in my entire life. Whole place was on fire
with crazy hippie energy.
7Wolves In The Throne Room
Wanderer Above The Sea And Fog

Still my favorite Cascadian black metal band (yeah I hated that term but I'm
over it.)
8Wolfsheim
Once In A Lifetime

Only song of theirs that I ever listen to.
9Winterhorde
Tenth Wave

Oh there we go... an Israeli metal band. Fitting.
10Ulver
Christmas

Wrong holiday but epic song.
11Tristania
Angina

This album will never die. This song is pure excellence.
12TLC
Creep

Didn't see that one coming, did you?
13Thrice
Of Dust And Nations

Maybe I'm crazy, but this entire album could easily be about ancient (and
some modern) Jewish history. I mean, if you know your shit as a Jew, this
could be the most anthemic album for you ever.
14Third Eye Blind
I Want You

Fantastic song from back when the radio played great music.
15The Red Paintings
We Belong In The Sea

Best song by this band IMO.
16The Morningside
Moving Crosscurrent Of Time

This whole album, as well as their debut, do something to me that very few
albums do...
17The Knife
We Share Our Mothers' Health

The end is always near.
18The Idan Raichel Project
Bo'ee

Some wholesome Jewish ethno-pop(?)
19The Goo Goo Dolls
Black Balloon

Music I grew up with.
20The Gathering
Great Ocean Road

This song is mesmerizing.
21The Flaming Lips
Race For The Prize

Such a good song. Humble and true commentary on life.
22The Birthday Massacre
Horror Show

This song is dear to me, as is the rest of this album.
23Electric Light Orchestra
Telephone Line

This song has gotten me through many hard nights.
24The American Dollar
Second Sight

Watch the video for this, it's pretty cool.
25Tegan And Sara
The Con

Good song. What?
26Sunny Day Real Estate
In Circles

"Emo" that was genuinely emotional, exhaustingly deep and just plain
beautiful.
27Something For Kate
Three Dimensions

This band wrote the same song over and over again for years, but it was a
pretty good song.
28Solstafir
Kold

When shit gets rough, this song enters my rotation.
29Sleeping Gods
Scene Of Emptiness

Pretty unknown band. This song is fantastic though the rest of the album is
meh. There is one other very good song on it, "Sweet Suffering."
30Sleeping At Last
Tension & Thrill

My unofficial wedding song. Beautiful lyrics.
31Buffy Sainte-Marie
Moonshot

A kickass song that every "civilized" European/American needs to listen to.
32Cepia
Ithica

Great simple electronic tune.
33Clive Tanaka y Su Orquesta
Skinjob

Every time I hear this song, I get lost, and it always sucks to find my way
back to the real world.
34Coheed and Cambria
Everything Evil

Back from when this band was awesome.
35Cold Body Radiation
The Great White Emptiness

Bliss.
36Dagoba
Dead Lion Reef

Best workout music EVER.
37Damien Rice
Volcano

Timeless.
38David Axelrod
A Little Girl Lost

One of his many brilliant compositions.
39David Sylvian
Maria

This is how you use atmosphere in a song, fellas. Take notes.
40Dir en Grey
Toguro

Too many people dismiss this band. The guitar on this track is to die for.
41Disillusion
A Day By The Lake

Still a great song.
42Draconian
Seasons Apart

One of the true gems of this dying/dead genre.
43Dredg
Symbol Song

Let's all remember this song when their new album drops, just to keep
things in perspective.
44Sirenia
In Sumerian Haze

A band that could have been a perfect continuation of Tristania but instead
died a slow, ugly death.
45Scale The Summit
The Levitated

Oh yeah
46Savage Garden
To The Moon And Back

Let's all come clean and admit that this band was good.
47Sabaton
The Final Solution

I'm still here, motherfuckers.
48Propagandhi
Human(e) Meat (The Flensing Of Sandor Katz)

Nothing can stop this band.
49Prey For Nothing
Breach

Another great Israeli metal band. Check them out.
50PJ Harvey
On Battleship Hill

Chills. Oh hey you're halfway through my list congrats!
51Phish
Dirt

So good
52Peter Broderick
And It's Alright

This album is very genuine.
53Perry Farrell
Song Yet To Be Sung

One of the best Jewish feel-good songs. The lyric "From the heights of Zion"
is what primarily inspired my username.
54Orbital
Halcyon & On & On

Who else first heard this song on the Hackers soundtrack?
55Earth Crisis
Slither

SLITHER!!!!!
56Eluveitie
Inis Mona

Perfect.
57Eluvium
Indoor Swimming At The Space Station

My favorite Eluvium track. The title is exactly what this sounds like.
58Enigma
Age Of Loneliness (Carly's Song)

When I grew up in Colorado it seemed like everyone listened to Enigma,
here in the midwest people haven't even heard of them.
59Ensiferum
Ahti

Yeah, kinda going through my E's here... so many good E bands after all.
60Fen
Colossal Voids

I rarely listen to this album anymore, but it's still pretty decent.
61Foals
Blue Blood

Great lyrics and (as usual) great bass line.
62Forest Of Shadows
Eternal Autumn

If you like doom metal and you haven't heard this, go listen to it now.
63Fuel
Glitter

This song meant a lot to me when I was growing up.
64Novembre
Triesteitaliana

I used to have part of this song set as my alarm in the morning.
65Mum
Green Grass Of Tunnel

Go watch the vid for this, then watch the acoustic cover by Gihm (just YT it)
66Motek
Dragons Are Forever

Already had this band on here but I've really been digging this album.
67Monolithe
Monolithe II

Epic 1-track sci-fi metal album. Part of a trilogy, don't know if the third part
will ever be released...
68Modest Mouse
Custom Concern

A very personally relevant song.
69Talking Shit About A Pretty Sunset

A very personally relevant song.[2]
70Polar Opposites

A very personally relevant song.[3]
71Grey Ice Water

A very personally relevant song.[4]
72The Stars Are Projectors

A very personally relevant song.[5]
73Mar De Grises
Deep-Seeded Hope Avant-Garde

I can't explain to you how much I love this band.
74Storm

There is an amazing live video of this on YouTube.
75Starmaker

The new album is tough to get into. It's brutal as hell at times.
76Luna Sea
In Silence

Sugizo is a master at the guitar. This band has great lyrics.
77Longing For Dawn
Our Symbolic Burial

One of the best funeral doom metal tracks.
78Lisa Hannigan
Teeth

I am deeply in love with this woman and even my wife has come to
understand that this will never change.
79Lifelover
Mental Central Dialog

I approach this band rarely and with caution, but I love this song.
80Library Tapes
Pieces Of Us Were Left On The Tracks

Songs to blow your own head off to. But somehow I'm calmed by such music.
81Lantlos
Neige De Mars

Neige.
82Landing
Hold Me Under

If you like Phish you'd probably like this band. I don't like Phish though so
ignore what I just said.
83Grey Waters
The Truth In Your Eyes

Beautiful post rock / shoegaze.
84Halves
Amberscene

Reminds me of my childhood somehow.
85Hanging Garden
Wolves Cry Out

Best song off of TEOTWAWKI, IMHO
86Hauschka
Morgenrot

Love this album, and the album cover for some reason.
87Have A Nice Life
Waiting For Black Metal Records To Come In The Mail

Best song off of Deathconsciousness
88Hawksley Workman
Warhol's Portrait Of Gretsky

If you've seen the portrait, this song is hilarious.
89HORSE The Band
A Million Exploding Suns

Rarely listen to this band anymore, but this was my fav when I did.
90Kalmah
The Groan Of Wind

They should have written a sequel about Swine flu.
91Killing Joke
Sanity

Important music.
92Kings Of Convenience
Cayman Islands

Beautiful song.
93Korpiklaani
Pine Woods

Too much win.
94Talking Heads
Once In A Lifetime

I had to list this one. Possibly my favorite song of all time, no joke.
95Life In Your Way
Making Waves

Though I really don't like hardcore, I must say... Christians know what
they're doing when it comes to that genre. They own it. Just like Jews own
cheesy 70's-80's disco-folk and heathens own metal.
9616 Horsepower
Flutter

No comment, I'm tired of this fucking list already. What a stupid idea.
97Anathema
Angelica

My favorite Anathema track to this day.
98Woven Hand
The Threshingfloor

Cultured, dark Americana. This band is almost flawless.
99Singing Grass

Another beautiful track off of the same album (The Threshing Floor.)
100Agalloch
Hallways Of Enchanted Ebony

1,000,000/5. Thanks and goodnight.
