Epic Purim List
So not only is today the vernal equinox and my rbirthday, it is also Purim, the Jewish holiday in rwhich it is pretty much required that you get rsloshed (seriously.) So in honor of this rTrichotomous Rex of special occasions, here's a rlist of my recent (and some historical) jams. |
1 | Boris Tu, La La
This song is bound to blow my speakers out. I cannot stop listening to this
album. At all. Help me. |
2 | Talking Heads Lifetime Piling Up
One of the best Talking Heads songs, released to promote their "Sand In
The Vaseline" compilation. |
3 | Brandt Brauer Frick Mi Corazon
This is a pure gem of a track. |
4 | Motek Abused
I was listening to this song while driving last weekend, and everything the
chorus hit I would impulsively floor it without realizing it. During the second
or third chorus I reached 100mph in my Honda CR-V before noticing. No one
on the highway, this song blaring, it just has to happen. |
5 | Dead Spirits' Dance Cold Wind - A Dream Vision
This song dominates. |
6 | Xavier Rudd Dark Shades Of Blue
I can't listen to this album without remembering the first time I saw this guy
live. Best show I have been to in my entire life. Whole place was on fire
with crazy hippie energy. |
7 | Wolves In The Throne Room Wanderer Above The Sea And Fog
Still my favorite Cascadian black metal band (yeah I hated that term but I'm
over it.) |
8 | Wolfsheim Once In A Lifetime
Only song of theirs that I ever listen to. |
9 | Winterhorde Tenth Wave
Oh there we go... an Israeli metal band. Fitting. |
10 | Ulver Christmas
Wrong holiday but epic song. |
11 | Tristania Angina
This album will never die. This song is pure excellence. |
12 | TLC Creep
Didn't see that one coming, did you? |
13 | Thrice Of Dust And Nations
Maybe I'm crazy, but this entire album could easily be about ancient (and
some modern) Jewish history. I mean, if you know your shit as a Jew, this
could be the most anthemic album for you ever. |
14 | Third Eye Blind I Want You
Fantastic song from back when the radio played great music. |
15 | The Red Paintings We Belong In The Sea
Best song by this band IMO. |
16 | The Morningside Moving Crosscurrent Of Time
This whole album, as well as their debut, do something to me that very few
albums do... |
17 | The Knife We Share Our Mothers' Health
The end is always near. |
18 | The Idan Raichel Project Bo'ee
Some wholesome Jewish ethno-pop(?) |
19 | The Goo Goo Dolls Black Balloon
Music I grew up with. |
20 | The Gathering Great Ocean Road
This song is mesmerizing. |
21 | The Flaming Lips Race For The Prize
Such a good song. Humble and true commentary on life. |
22 | The Birthday Massacre Horror Show
This song is dear to me, as is the rest of this album. |
23 | Electric Light Orchestra Telephone Line
This song has gotten me through many hard nights. |
24 | The American Dollar Second Sight
Watch the video for this, it's pretty cool. |
25 | Tegan And Sara The Con
Good song. What? |
26 | Sunny Day Real Estate In Circles
"Emo" that was genuinely emotional, exhaustingly deep and just plain
beautiful. |
27 | Something For Kate Three Dimensions
This band wrote the same song over and over again for years, but it was a
pretty good song. |
28 | Solstafir Kold
When shit gets rough, this song enters my rotation. |
29 | Sleeping Gods Scene Of Emptiness
Pretty unknown band. This song is fantastic though the rest of the album is
meh. There is one other very good song on it, "Sweet Suffering." |
30 | Sleeping At Last Tension & Thrill
My unofficial wedding song. Beautiful lyrics. |
31 | Buffy Sainte-Marie Moonshot
A kickass song that every "civilized" European/American needs to listen to. |
32 | Cepia Ithica
Great simple electronic tune. |
33 | Clive Tanaka y Su Orquesta Skinjob
Every time I hear this song, I get lost, and it always sucks to find my way
back to the real world. |
34 | Coheed and Cambria Everything Evil
Back from when this band was awesome. |
35 | Cold Body Radiation The Great White Emptiness
Bliss. |

Best workout music EVER. |
37 | Damien Rice Volcano
Timeless. |
38 | David Axelrod A Little Girl Lost
One of his many brilliant compositions. |
39 | David Sylvian Maria
This is how you use atmosphere in a song, fellas. Take notes. |
40 | Dir en Grey Toguro
Too many people dismiss this band. The guitar on this track is to die for. |
41 | Disillusion A Day By The Lake
Still a great song. |
42 | Draconian Seasons Apart
One of the true gems of this dying/dead genre. |
43 | Dredg Symbol Song
Let's all remember this song when their new album drops, just to keep
things in perspective. |
44 | Sirenia In Sumerian Haze
A band that could have been a perfect continuation of Tristania but instead
died a slow, ugly death. |
45 | Scale The Summit The Levitated
Oh yeah |
46 | Savage Garden To The Moon And Back
Let's all come clean and admit that this band was good. |
47 | Sabaton The Final Solution
I'm still here, motherfuckers. |

51 | Phish Dirt
So good |
52 | Peter Broderick And It's Alright
This album is very genuine. |
53 | Perry Farrell Song Yet To Be Sung
One of the best Jewish feel-good songs. The lyric "From the heights of Zion"
is what primarily inspired my username. |

Who else first heard this song on the Hackers soundtrack? |
55 | Earth Crisis Slither
SLITHER!!!!! |
56 | Eluveitie Inis Mona
Perfect. |
57 | Eluvium Indoor Swimming At The Space Station
My favorite Eluvium track. The title is exactly what this sounds like. |
58 | Enigma Age Of Loneliness (Carly's Song)
When I grew up in Colorado it seemed like everyone listened to Enigma,
here in the midwest people haven't even heard of them. |
59 | Ensiferum Ahti
Yeah, kinda going through my E's here... so many good E bands after all. |
60 | Fen Colossal Voids
I rarely listen to this album anymore, but it's still pretty decent. |
61 | Foals Blue Blood
Great lyrics and (as usual) great bass line. |
62 | Forest Of Shadows Eternal Autumn
If you like doom metal and you haven't heard this, go listen to it now. |
63 | Fuel Glitter
This song meant a lot to me when I was growing up. |
64 | Novembre Triesteitaliana
I used to have part of this song set as my alarm in the morning. |
65 | Mum Green Grass Of Tunnel
Go watch the vid for this, then watch the acoustic cover by Gihm (just YT it) |
66 | Motek Dragons Are Forever
Already had this band on here but I've really been digging this album. |
67 | Monolithe Monolithe II
Epic 1-track sci-fi metal album. Part of a trilogy, don't know if the third part

I can't explain to you how much I love this band. |
74 | Storm
There is an amazing live video of this on YouTube. |
75 | Starmaker
The new album is tough to get into. It's brutal as hell at times. |
76 | Luna Sea In Silence
Sugizo is a master at the guitar. This band has great lyrics. |
77 | Longing For Dawn Our Symbolic Burial
One of the best funeral doom metal tracks. |
78 | Lisa Hannigan Teeth

understand that this will never change. |
79 | Lifelover Mental Central Dialog
I approach this band rarely and with caution, but I love this song. |

Songs to blow your own head off to. But somehow I'm calmed by such music. |

Neige. |
82 | Landing Hold Me Under

Important music. |
92 | Kings Of Convenience Cayman Islands
Beautiful song. |
93 | Korpiklaani Pine Woods
Too much win. |
94 | Talking Heads Once In A Lifetime
I had to list this one. Possibly my favorite song of all time, no joke. |
95 | Life In Your Way Making Waves
Though I really don't like hardcore, I must say... Christians know what
they're doing when it comes to that genre. They own it. Just like Jews own
cheesy 70's-80's disco-folk and heathens own metal. |
96 | 16 Horsepower Flutter
No comment, I'm tired of this fucking list already. What a stupid idea. |
97 | Anathema Angelica
My favorite Anathema track to this day. |

100 | Agalloch Hallways Of Enchanted Ebony
1,000,000/5. Thanks and goodnight. |
