Saw Children of Bodom/Devin Townsend

Saw Bodom and Devy with Obscura and Septic Flesh last night, was rdefinitely one of the best metal concerts I've been to.
4Septic Flesh
The Great Mass

I wasn't expecting the symphonic arrangements this band uses to work in a live setting, but surprisingly they did. They really got the crowd pumped up, with lots of chanting and raising of the devil horns. The playing as a whole was pretty boring, but it worked out anyways. 3.5/5
3Obscura
Omnivium

These guys played pretty well, lots of great sweeping/tapping guitar solos and complicated riffs. Not a whole lot of crowd participation because the songs were so complex. 4/5
2The Devin Townsend Project
Deconstruction

Devy was the reason I came to the show, and he did not disappoint. He played a pretty diverse setlist, with songs from Ziltoid, Physicist, Addicted, and Deconstruction. He inflected much humor into his performance, starting the show with "now we've come to the awkward part of the show!" He played and sang perfectly, although the setlist was shorter than I was anticipating. Definitely the best live performer I've ever seen. 5/5
1Children of Bodom
Relentless Reckless Forever

These guys played really good, and Alexi wasn't very drunk so he didn't play really sloppily. The only old school songs that I noticed were Children of Bodom and Downfall, but they were still awesome. The pit was so crazy that I didn't really notice how many of the crappy new songs they were playing. 4/5
