08.23.12 | Idk about 3. Dave gets quite a bit of attention. |
SitarHero
08.23.12 | He does now. But not when he was in Nirvana.
Also, there have got to be parallels for Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Pantera, Metallica, and Radiohead. |
SCREAMorphine
08.23.12 | I can see the similarities.
Who were the 90's equivalent to the Beatles? |
SitarHero
08.23.12 | Tupac = Dylan
The poet laureate of his time. Some will say that he lacked talent (Dylan can't sing, Tupac can't flow) but the words outweigh the delivery. |
WeepingBanana
08.23.12 | yeah except sabbath and zep were barely around for the 60s |
SitarHero
08.23.12 | Sublime = Cream
White, drug-addicted guitarist/singer (Nowell, Clapton) brings black art-form (ska, blues) to the masses. |
thumbcrusher
08.23.12 | Metallica / Elvis
Released revolutionary albums in the previous decade, a switch of focus led to new success (Elvis' films) but there would be signs of their demise as the decade wore on, ultimately leading to breakdowns 2 or 3 years into the next decade. |
SCREAMorphine
08.23.12 | ^interesting |
SitarHero
08.23.12 | Nice! I'm still drawing a blank on the Beatles though... |
intotheshit
08.23.12 | Dumb |
ReturnToRock
08.23.12 | I think Chris Novoselic is awesome, he's one of my main influences as a bass player. Also give props to Grohl, even though I prefer Chad Channing. |
KILL
08.23.12 | lol why would you prefer chad channing |
ReturnToRock
08.23.12 | Green Day = Beach Boys.
Feel-good, juvenile, melodious group who achieved a few hits early on, tried to go serious midway through their career, produced a magnum opus (Pet Sounds/American Idiot), then began a steady, progressive. descent into ludicrousness. |
ReturnToRock
08.23.12 | @KILL maybe because he's a better drummer? IDK :p |
Rsetness9
08.23.12 | this is just weird |
omnipanzer
08.23.12 | I agree with very little of this. The more you know about both bands the more your reasoning completely falls apart. |
newjunkaesthetic93
08.23.12 | This list would suggest the 90's were a watered down version of the 60's, as none of the 90's bands listed compare very favorably to their sixties counterpart. Plus, none of these bands even have very similar sounds. |
newjunkaesthetic93
08.23.12 | @ReturnToRock, I already thought this list was stupid, then I read the comments and see you comparing Pet Sounds to American Idiot. |
AGuyIsWatchingYou
08.23.12 | This is terrible and everyone involved should feel very, very bad. |
IndianaWarLord
08.23.12 | the mamas and the papas...well mainly the mamas...well the fat one= Adele |
IndianaWarLord
08.23.12 | cool list by the way... very creative and thought out |
sixdegrees
08.23.12 | sorta interesting idea |
YankeeDudel
08.23.12 | I always thought the 90s alternative / grunge / punk / indie / whatever brought back alot of the classic rock sound that was missing a little in the 80s. |
Trebor17
08.23.12 | This is dumb |
rotterdog
08.23.12 | From a purely musical standpoint, Nirvana actually reminds me more of the Beatles. Mostly because of Kurt's catchy but interesting melodies. And because of the way they brought a previously underground genre into the mainstream. |
Emim
08.23.12 | "Metallica / Elvis"
metallica haven't killed themselves yet |
Rsetness9
08.23.12 | I thought about this and heres what I think.
Pearl Jam - Led Zepplin
Soundgarden - Black Sabbath
Smashing Pumpkins - The Cure
And this is really off subject but I noticed while researching that Jack White's guitar playing is very similar to Jimi Hendrix's. |
Rsetness9
08.23.12 | And come on you guys, stop bitching like babies about the guys list. It's an original idea, even though it is a little crazy. |
oWhoadYo
08.23.12 | Did you just say that the cure was around for the 60's? |
Graveyard
08.23.12 | 60's cure was the best |
oWhoadYo
08.23.12 | I agree.
Three Imaginary Sperm Cells was pretty great. Same with Sperm Cells Don't Cry. |
AGuyIsWatchingYou
08.23.12 | "And come on you guys, stop bitching like babies about the guys list. It's an original idea, even though it is a little crazy."
No it's not, go to a fucking Led Zeppelin or any "classic rock" artist video on YouTube with a million comments nearly identical to this premise.
Also
"The Doors:- Somewhat overrated (musically) pseudo-blues band"
lol, have you ever listened to The Doors? |
jungletiger
08.23.12 | if were talking 70's pink floyd = radiohead |
Rsetness9
08.23.12 | Nearly identical to what premise? |
SitarHero
08.24.12 | The flames are burning bright today.
"lol, have you ever listened to The Doors?"
lol, have you?
"none of these bands even have very similar sounds."
That's not really the point. It's more about certain artists occupying similar cultural and artistic space at different times.
"The more you know about both bands the more your reasoning completely falls apart."
I compared Cobain and Hendrix. I would think that made the non-serious analytic nature of the list obvious. |
ReturnToRock
08.24.12 | All I was saying was that Idiot occupies the same spot in the GD discography than Pet Sounds does on the Beach Boys discog. And GD hate is so 2004. |
