Romulus 2010
sorry for the awkward number of entries. also i know i'm forgetting something. whatever. (also this is my fifteenth title for this list i apologize. anyone want to suggest one?) |
| 31 | | The Men Immaculada
lazarus is a fantastic song. the rest of this is still great, just not on that level for me |
| 30 | | Demians Mute
grooviest album of the year, except for possibly....... |
| 29 | | More Than Life Love Let Me Go
put off listening to this for ages, when i did i was seriously shocked at the level of emotion |
| 28 | | Akala Doublethink
this has a few off-putting aspects to it, but its uniqueness more than makes up for it. plus i love this guy's voice seriously |
| 27 | | Her Name is Calla The Quiet Lamb
massive. |
| 26 | | Gorillaz Plastic Beach
......this. extremely pleasant surprise that i kind of forgot about for the majority of the year, which was extremely silly of me because it's great. |
| 25 | | Mellowhype Blackenedwhite
i was really pleasantly surprised at the amount of hip hop releases that i loved in 2010 |
| 24 | | Letlive Fake History
first time i listened i thought this sucked, second time i thought it was top ten material. it's neither, but it is an extremely up and down album. the high points (muther) are fantastic though. |
| 23 | | The State Lottery When the Night Comes
this is such an endearing album. beats out gaslight in the gaslight department for 2010 |
| 22 | | The Saddest Landscape You Will Not Survive
happy that this got some hype late in the year, probably my favorite emo slightly over sed non satiata |
| 21 | | Sick of it All Based On a True Story
i had sky high expectations for this, and the fact that it very nearly fulfilled them speaks volumes as to how good it is. |
| 20 | | Daughters Daughters
the most fun album of 2010 bar none. |
| 19 | | PS I Love You Meet Me at the Muster Station
so rough and lazy that it eventually becomes lovable. heard a track on the staff blog (!) and got hooked pretty quickly. |
| 18 | | Future Islands In Evening Air
the most blissful album on this list. makes me want to jump into a tropical jungle pool or something like that. |
| 17 | | Women Public Strain
this is not the second coming of jesus, as some people say, nor does it suck, as others say. it is, however, very very good. |
| 16 | | Max Richter Infra
i was a little underwhelmed by this at first, but it's become one of my top seven or so most listen to albums this year. |
| 15 | | The Menzingers Chamberlain Waits
didn't think much of this at the beginning of the year, but haven't been able to lay off lately. in five years i might listen to this album as much as my top 5. |
| 14 | | Dangers Messy, Isn't It?
love this album because it was always a forgone conclusion in my best of list: 2010 might suck, but at least it'll have dangers. |
| 13 | | Peter Wolf Crier Inter-Be
i almost feel but putting this out of the top ten after how enamored i was with it at the start of the year. fantastic album still. |
| 12 | | How to Dress Well Love Remains
why doesn't anyone ever mention how fucking catchy this is? everyone's always like omg bad production or omg haunting and transcendent but man does it get stuck in your head |
| 11 | | Flying Lotus Cosmogramma
i was so confused at all the hype cause i downloaded a phony version of this (which was still pretty sweet but i digress). got the real thing during the summer and fell in love |
| 10 | | Broken Water Whet
one day i'll find a way to review this (or get mike allen to do it) and everyone will listen to it and love it |
| 9 | | Four Tet There is Love in You
four tet was pretty cool this year in that i kind of forgot about this for a while, then came back to it and loved it more than ever. |
| 8 | | Bullets in Madison We Became Your Family When You Died
absolute gem that i never expected to find this late into the year. may not have the same staying power as the others but i'm full-heartedly loving this at the moment. |
| 7 | | The National High Violet
the first national release that i really, really dug. call me crazy. this is fantastic though, little faith is one of my favorites of the year. |
| 6 | | Shearwater The Golden Archipelago
probably the first album i fell in love with this year. it's grown off a bit, but the high points (castaways, hidden lakes) remain as astounding as ever |
| 5 | | Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
anyone who thought of this as a surprise paid zero attention to the singles kanye was releasing, but even i didn't think it would go top 5. |
| 4 | | The Tallest Man On Earth The Wild Hunt
i really thought this would be my album of the year at one point. the quality of the songs is really just overwhelming at times. |
| 3 | | S. Carey All We Grow
checked this because it's bon iver's drummer! did you know? in all seriousness though this grew on me like mad. what a pleasant surprise-- broken is probably my song of the year. |
| 2 | | The Flashbulb Arboreal
was rec'd this halfway through the year, fell in love. probably one of, if not my favorite artist discovery of the year. seriously ideal for summer runs. |
| 1 | | Dark Time Sunshine Vessel
basically went wire to wire as my favorite album this year. speaks volumes to how consistent it's been-- has yet to grow off me in the slightest. |
