11.04.12 | Thanks for checking out. Yeah, writing in French is especially hard, it seems like every grammar rule has exceptions, and exceptions to the exceptions. When somebody masters it, though, the result is damn brilliant. The blog was basically just a way for me to get back in the writing groove. |

I've had to kinda work backwards to get the grammar though cos a lot of things come naturally but there's gaps here and there. spelling and vocab are my main problems these days. a few months in quebec or france in the future should fix that, then I can concentrate on another language. |

i guess, i just like tutors with a sense of humour, learning a foreign language is supposed to be fun and not 100% serious all the time imo, especially in a group environment

I'm trying to learn portuguese at the moment on my own and it's actually going ok. in college I have a few french lessons, only 3 a fortnight, so I don't actually do much in them. learning a language in an environment like that is a nightmare though. it just doesn't work and I bombed year 9 german cos of it. one of the teachers is actually pretty cool though, she makes the lessons half interesting whereas the other one just tells you to go on a computer and do 45 minutes of research on charles de gaulle. you can't learn anything with a system like that |

11.04.12 | bro i can relate; i've learned more about the shaping of nineteenth century french society than i have enhanced my vocabulary and grammatical knowledge in the space of one and a half uni years. i'd be able to hold a conversation about the rights of man, colonisation and nazi controlled france - whereas, if you put me in an everyday situation with somebody, i'd struggle making general conversation.
