1/4 Of A Century!
blah, just looking at those words makes me feel physically ill. where has all this damn time gone? it seems like time's accelerated in the past few years, which kind of sucks. this last year has been very difficult, i've lost a couple of good friends as well as my nana, one of the finest women i've ever known. but things are starting to look up now, or so it seems. i started my own freelance painting business and i'm going to be going to school in the near future for programming and physics. now if only i could get my addictions under control (fast food and consuming copious amounts of weed), i might actually find motivation to do even more! anywho, as always, here are some of the albums i've really been digging this year |
15 | | Jenny Lewis The Voyager
one of the better alt country albums i've heard in a while. the title track is a serious song of the year contender |
14 | | Agalloch The Serpent and the Sphere
to hell with the haters! |
13 | | Lana Del Rey Ultraviolence
the hazy atmosphere here is laid on a little too thick for my liking and ends up being a detriment when listening to this as a whole, because after a certain point it all sounds a little homogeneous, but she still retains that cool sexed-up noir aesthetic that made born to die so great. (oh and 'to hell with the haters!') |
12 | | Kishi Bashi Lighght
just look at that album cover |
11 | | Gridlink Longhena
remember how awesome grind was back in the day!? |
10 | | FKA twigs LP1
this one's still settling, just heard it last night, but it's got all the makings of an extremely chilled out, evocative package. pendulum is another soty contender |
9 | | Against me! Transgender Dysphoria Blues
haven't listened to this as much in recent months, but it's one of the best against me! records in recent memory with an important message |
8 | | Motorpsycho Behind the Sun
one of the most straight-up enjoyable listens of the year for me. special shout out to menawati for introducing me to this |
7 | | Thou Heathen
right now, i think this is my favourite thou record |
6 | | Owl John Owl John
i've always enjoyed frightened rabbit but i had no clue this was coming out. cheers to sowing for showing me this lovely little record. a good reason to grow old is yet another soty contender |
5 | | A Sunny Day in Glasgow Sea When Absent
the perfect summer record, and best shoegaze in years. golden waves is perfect |
4 | | St. Vincent St. Vincent
i prefer your love to jesus < 3 |
3 | | Spoon They Want My Soul
best spoon in years. also made me go back and check out their entire discography again, and it's a rare thing for an album to reignite my interest in a band this much |
2 | | Sharon Van Etten Are We There
i've listened to this almost every day for weeks. a true masterpiece. your love is killing me is one of the most emotionally naked performances ever. |
1 | | Gazpacho Demon
album of the year. this has such a grandiose scope and diverse sonic palette, and god damn, those strings are gorgeous. special thanks to underflow for introducing me to the band, they've since become one of my favourite bands to listen to. if you haven't heard this already, change that. |
