i have never listened to Lee Morgan shit on my grave. where is liledman he loves jazz we can all talk about it together
Actually writing an essay over the jazz age right now
i would also recommend Jan Garbarek, a Norwegian saxophone player with huge back catalog and participations in jazz albums.
list is awesome. i'd recommend you put charlie parker and dizzy gillespie on this list
Love - 3, Listen to it over and over again.
And "Blue Train"
I'd say Ornette Coleman's The Shape of Jazz to Come could be on this, but other than that no complaints. Nice job.
Soft Machine - Third.
Just sayin'. Great album.
I was listening to Idle Moments recently, not bad at all. I have good memories of Brilliant Corners I think too. As with all genres though I tend to think some things are a bit overhyped.
Dave Holland, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Allen Toussaint, Django Reinhardt, Oscar Peterson, Chick Corea, Charles Mingus, Pat Metheny, Brad Mehldau (sp?), Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Nimmons N' Nine, Chicago Underground Duo (trio, quartet, orchestra), Danilo Perez, Vijay Iyer, Aaron Parks, Chris Porter, Keith Jarret (!!!!), John Zorn, Lee Konitz, John Abercrombie, Bill Frisell, Ornette Colemen, Ulf Wakenius, Duke Ellington... etc. etc.
You're missing a lot of big ones, especially Mingus, Coleman, Holland, Jarrett and Peterson. This is also a fairly narrow area of jazz you've represented here
These are my favorites. I do not do lists larger than 10. I will check some artists you mention in the list that I do not recognize. You seem more of a specialist than me in this field.
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
Pharoah Sanders - Karma
No Mingus, Jarret, Holland, or Ellington?
oh, I was under the impression this is what you thought were the essentials jazz. If they're your favourites then just conider mine recs! You would definitely like Peterson, Holland, Ulf Wakenius and Reinhardt
nice list, I prefer In A Silent Way to Kind of Blue though. You should give some more avant-garde stuff a try. http://rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=alltime&genre_include=1&genres=Avant-Garde+Jazz&include_child_genres=t&include=both&limit=none&countries=
Great list.
holy crap i missed a jazz list!
nice choices but what keelan and redsky said.
jaco pastorius rocks... or jazzes i guess
