Golgoroth: I should've known. Usually I'm good with sarcasm on the internet, but when you put Slipknot, SOAD, etc on a list, you do get people say things like that, even if the rest of the list is metal.
bloc01: Do you live in Delaware or Arizona? If it's neither, I don't think we'll ever be able to start a band, but it would be nice. I can't find a guitarist/bassist where I live that likes this music, sucks.

listen to some Cryptopsy Flo Mounier is insane as before mentioned
listen to some early Genesis when they were prog-rock in the 70's Phil Collins was an influence to many now progressive or metal drummers. Opeth is heavily influenced by early Genesis Akerfedlt has mentioned also.
Mastodons drummer Brann Dailor is good also Napalm Deaths Danny Herrera
Nice influences with the Opeth, Bloodbath connection
