I'm from the Philippines, and Typhoon Ondoy is devastating the country at the moment -
Typhoons aren't uncommon back home, but there hasn't been one this bad as far back as I
can remember. As I sit comfortably dry in Southern California, I can't stop thinking about all
my family and friends affected - rich and poor are struggling through the onslaught of rain. If
you're tired of hearing about it or want to know more check my cousin's blog for ways to help
On a lighter note, I saw Bon Iver for the first time live at the Wiltern Theatre last night. One
of the best shows I've had the pleasure of seeing!
Arguably my favorite artist, their performance cemented their place in my heart - Creature Fear was mind
blowing and Re: Stacks (my favorite track off For Emma, Forever Ago) was beautiful - Just Justin Vernon
on stage with his guitar. I want to follow these guys on their tour with Megafaun (also dope)
I just got their/his? record 'Davy'. I guess I'm on a Jason Shwartzman binge since watching Bored to
Death - I think its pretty cool so far
|3||Do Make Say Think|
Really digging The Other Truths - planning on getting their whole discography once funds allow.
|4||Kings Of Convenience|
perfect for cruising down to the beach to.
brand new eyes is super catchy and I've always had a soft spot for Paramore - opener Careful is soo good!
Dusted off Swoon and forgot how much I liked it. The video for Substitution is pretty stupid though.
It involves Justin Vernon, so of course it's on here. Island, IS is super cool.
|9||The Arusha Accord|
awesome musicianship - a news article about their new tracks on myspace made me hunt down their EP
and it was a breath of fresh air
|10||Eleventh He Reaches London|
the name has been buzzing around sputnik for the past couple of days, so I finally tracked this down.
|and recs are always welcome! some folk that isn't too heavy on the country influence (if that makes sense or exists? not so much knee slappin ho downs or fiddles and washboards in other words) would be awesome but i won't discriminate. I'm down for post rock and metal too - really anything. cheers dudes|
|you should check out the monsters of folk album|
hope your family is all okay, i'm from florida but go to school in L.A. so hurricanes always worry me. hasn't been anything bad in a while though
|thanks man, much appreciated :) I will get on the Monsters of Folk album - the lineup is stellar, so I hope it doesn't suffer from Supergroup Syndrome (ala Chickenfoot)|
My family is safe, not to worry anyone (though my aunt has like half a foot of water in the ground floor of her house - major bummer)
|Ahhh you're so lucky to see Bon Iver! I would love to see them/Justin, he's pretty inspirational.|
Digging 3 aswell.
|10 are amazing!!!|
|dunno if this will still get read, but|
mammalian - at first i wasn't convinced - but as the record progressed (hollow be my name), it just clicked 3 songs in and just got better and better. good stuff.
skimaskcheck - Justin Vernon IS awe inspiring, the man is just ridiculously talented. One of my musical idols for sure
klap4musik - picking up Monsters of Folk album tomorrow, and am pretty stoked
|Videoclip for substitute is awesome!|
|haha, the chicks are hot for sure...but (well I don't know what's wrong with me and why that isn't enough) a highly stylized and dramatized game of musical chairs? I guess I was hoping they'd put out something deep and insightful. I dunno, I'm weird and I've never seen a SSPU video before|
|Haha, they are going for the mainstream, and probably want regular plays on video clip shows so they have definitely gone for the norm with their video. Captures your attention without doing anything awesome, and the music aint to shabby either haha|
