eternium 10.23.10	All journalism is going to be biased. News reporters and especially commentators are going to have opinions. The problem is when they either flat out lie or distort the truth (usually using out-of-context quotes and videos) and I think the biggest problem is the neglect of news that matters in favor of whatever will get the highest ratings. It's like they don't know how to simply state the facts and have sane debates.

eternium 10.23.10	MSNBC is the only news station that is comparable to how biased Fox News is and MSNBC at least doesn't try to hide its bias with slogans like "fair and balanced." Murdoch directly given a million dollars to the Republican Party and has said that Republican success is best for the country and Fox News. No other major news source does that.

eternium 10.23.10	I'm not sure how the donation rules are when it comes to businesses, but they've all said that News Corp donated the money, therefore directly linking them. But yes, it is wrong for anyone to say something as bigoted as that. Part of having freedom of speech is having to deal with the consequences when people hear what you say. If you offend people, you're going to be targeted for that. It's like when Rick Sanchez said that Jews run CNN and he got fired.

Just about every host on Fox News gets away with this kind of thing though, which is why so many people accuse Fox News of being racist.
awhiteguy 10.23.10	Not trying to troll. Both of you have made some good points, but you continue to repeat everything you've said in previous posts, just saying it differently. It's not all about who he offends, it's about the image of the company(in this case NPR) he works for. If the company feels threatened, they're going to let him go regardless of what's in his contract. If his contract doesn't permit them to do so, they will find a reason to nullify his contract. It always happens that way. It happened with Imus a couple of years ago as well, if you all remember.

If you're vocal about your fear of a group of people in a way that you are obviously stereotyping (always dumb), then you deserve to have your ass handed to you because you are being a bigoted prick and he should have been used as an example that these attitudes are wrong, except that now he's being protected by Fox News and other conservatives.

The news should be based on facts and rational debates on things that can be debated on (meaning that you shouldn't give equal ground to some idiot who thinks that climate change is bullshit as you would give a scientist who has facts saying that it is real, which is a huge problem).
