Genre-defining Albums

Albums that are genre defining classics of their genres, and music as a whole.
1HIM
Dark Light

An unarguably epic classic from finnish Black Metal legends HIM--Overflowing with chilling yet beautiful vocals, exceptional drumming and guitar work unrivaled by any other band operating in the metal community to date.
2Good Charlotte
The chronicles of life and death

The bands darkest offering to date, jam full of brooding menace and a lot of hard truths about life and society that really hit home. Complete with unnerving turns of musicianship and shockingly raw emotion, This is truely a high watermark in the Goth-Punk/ industrial genre---Marilyn Manson, eat your heart out. p.s (keep an ear peeled for the emotionally charged and heart breaking hidden track at the end of the album)
3Green Day
21st century breakdown

Not much more can be said for green day that hasn't already been said--they have pretty much redefined the punk genre, pioneered an entirely new sound on their stunning debut AMERICAN IDIOT, and made a place for themselves in rock history, alonside the beatles and elvis presley. On their amazing sophomore effort, 21st century breakdown, Billy joes extraordinary lyrics burn through in a blistering magnum opus of anarchic punk rock fury. Grammy-worthy stuff.
4Avenged Sevenfold
avenged sevenfold

It's hard for me to say too much about this breathtaking musical miracle. It just seemed to come at a time when the world needed it, and I'm sure it will be remembered fondly for many years to come--By all fans of melodic heavy metal
5 Limp Bizkit
chocolate starfish in the hotdog flavoured water

straight up metal that all fans of heavy music will hapilly remember from back in the day--Few artists can hope to match what Fred Durst has achieved to date, and there's more to come with the triumphant news of the groups near-future re. Quite simply put, metal done right
