A Vooligan 2010

So yeah, pretty damn awesome year for music and such.... Here's what I liked.
1Rosetta
A Determinism of Morality

One of my favourite bands released my favourite album of the year. This is ridiculous, right from 'Ayil' and its ridiculous breakdown to the epicness of the closer. I've been a fan of Rosetta since i first heard The Galilean Sattelites a few years ago, that album is my favourite album of all time and this nearly tops it. Two words sum it up best: Beautiful Chaos. 5/5
2Deftones
Diamond Eyes

Huge return by the Deftones. Diamond Eyes is right up there with White Pony as some of the band's best work. There isn't one bit of filler on here, with every track having something to offer. In particular CMD/CTRL, Sextape and You've Seen the Butcher are some of Deftones best ever songs. 4.5/5
3Dead Letter Circus
This Is The Warning

My undisputed favourite band playing my favourite genre of music. This Is The Warning is an incredible album, i've listened to it over 100 times and still love it just as much. No filler at all, and every song shows the band trying something different. Kim Benzie's vocals are unmatched, with songs like Cage, The Drum and the title track all featuring chills down the back of the neck moments. 4.5/5
4The Dillinger Escape Plan
Option Paralysis

I was one of the few that regarded Ire Works as DEP's best work, but Option Paralysis completely blew that out of the water. Amazingly brutal album while also featuring the band's best quieter moments. 4.5/5
5Twelve Foot Ninja
Smoke Bomb

The best EP of 2010. Twelve Foot Ninja are a band that's going places. 4.5/5
6Oceansize
Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up

Build Us A Rocket Then, You Rocket Building Cunt......... Nuff said. 4.5/5
7Engine Three Seven
Atmosphere

Incredible EP, their gig at the Evelyn in Melbourne a few weeks ago was undoubtedly the most amazing gig i've ever been to. 4.5/5
8 Anathema
We're Here Because We're Here

Completely unexpected, but completely awesome. 4/5
9The Ocean
Anthropocentric

This site makes me feel guilty for liking this, but I genuinely love it. When this band does a concept album they might go a little overboard, but at the same time they create some amazing music. 4/5
10Helm
Great Southern Land

Best cover i've ever heard. Who ever thought Great Southern Land would have been turned into a sludgy post metal song. 4/5
1165daysofstatic
We Were Exploding Anyway

Really liking the electronic direction these guys are taking. 4/5
12The Ocean
Heliocentric

So yeah, this is really high because of Firmament. It's an amazing song. 4/5
13At The Soundawn
Shifting

Completely unexpected but fucking good post metal. 4/5
14The Tallest Man on Earth
The Wild hunt

Brilliant folk music. 4/5
15Birds of Tokyo
Birds of Tokyo

Most people didn't like the less punchy songs on Bird's latest, but i stand by what i said in the review. It's their best album yet, because they experimented some more with their sound. Oh, and there's Ian Kenny. 4/5
