Vooligan: 2009

Pretty sweet year, a couple of surprises and not that many disappointments. Although the Mammal break up was fucking shit. Here's my favourite albums of the year.
1Eleventh He Reaches London
Hollow Be My Name

Those who read my review would have seen this coming. Amazing record, probably the best thing to come out of Australia since Cog's The New Normal. 5/5
2Karnivool
Sound Awake

Couldn't have asked for anything more from my favourite band. Their progression from Themata was awesome. Also boasts the song of the year in 'New Day.' 4.5/5
3Brand New
Daisy

Somewhat a surprise given i hadn't heard much of them before Daisy, but this ruled. 4.5/5
4Isis
Wavering Radiant

Awesome, awesome album from another favourite. Threshold of Transformation is one of the best songs Isis have written. 4.5/5
5 Sleepmakeswaves / Tangled Thoughts of Leaving
Split

The vast majority of Sputnik will crucify me for this, but this was the best Post Rock of the year, if you didnt hear it, you should. It's even free, so there's nothing stopping you. TTOL are one of the most exciting bands around at the moment, people need to hear them. 4.5/5
6Horrorshow
Inside Story

Emotional, sincere aussie hip hop. Some of you might remember them from Part 2 of AtavanHalen's Aussie Underground lists. They're two very talented guys who will be huge in a couple of years. 4.5/5
7Gallows
Grey Britain

Basically a huge, bleak smack in the face. Awesome punk rock. 4.5/5
8Silversun Pickups
Swoon

Obsessed over this album quite frequently this year, pretty damn cool band. 4.5/5
9Porcupine Tree
The Incident

Not quite as good as FOABP, but still some of the best prog this year. 4/5
10 The Nation Blue
Rising Waters

Aussie punk at it's best. Alligator, you need to hear this band. 4/5
