07.19.09 | Mainstream magazines/sites don't actually give critical opinions, they determine what the mainstream casual music fan masses would think of an album and score it based on that, rather than how good it actually is, in 95% of cases. I mean logically, the average person WOULD enjoy Souljaboytellem.com more than Brother, Sister, because they don't really listen to music for anything other than a catchy beat or a hook.

One review spent the whole review talking about an album's lyrics (it was a Strung Out album, so not talking about the instruments is stupid), while another spent like 500 words trying to say how Ensiferum were Melodic Death Metal (which I don't even think they are). Also it's sorta apparent the writers there only listen to the albums a few times (like 2 or 3) before reviewing them...every album should be listened to at least 5 times before reviewing IMO (unless it's a really simple album). |
