Really Late 2010 List
Best of 2010, and I'm still tracking down some goodies. Honorable rmentions: Bison BC, Sigh, rrhaarp, Wolves in the Throne Room, Shining, rCeleste, etc.... |
1 | | Titus Andronicus The Monitor
Definitely could've been a 5. Probably should be a 5. This is about as close to being perfect as any album
yet this decade. The attitude, energy, and atmosphere mold it into a modern day anthem. |
2 | | Nachtmystium Addicts: Black Meddle Pt. 2
The vibe of this record is untouchable. Darker, bleaker, and more sinister than it's traditional black metal
counterparts; Addicts builds upon Assassins' seedy foundation with even more ear-opening experimentation. |
3 | | The Dillinger Escape Plan Option Paralysis
Following up three near-masterpieces can't be easy, but they made it seem effortless. More natural than its
predecessors, Option Paralysis sounds like the band working their way into their comfort zone. Who doesn't love
something simultaneously complex, unapproachable, and catchy? |
4 | | The Ocean Anthropocentric
Instead of serving as the intended companion piece to Heliocentric, Anthropocentric really rights every wrong from the
earlier release. Vocals are no longer forced or awkward, song structures no longer dawdles between outright
aggressive or emotive/spacey, and the sequencing is spot-on. |
5 | | Deftones Diamond Eyes
The Deftones are somehow immune to releasing a sub-par record. They always find a way to tap into some unexplored sound
that is simultaneously Deftones-esque and fresh, bringing brand new versions of "heavy" and "atmospheric." Chino's vocals
really soar on this record, definitely his best performance of their entire discography. |
6 | | Sleigh Bells Treats
Raunchy, poppy, & in your face. |
7 | | Krallice Dimensional Bleedthrough
Dense, complex, & rewarding. |
8 | | Zoroaster Matador
Fuzzy, hazy, & heaaaaaavvvvvy. |
9 | | Kylesa Spiral Shadow
Ghostly, tribal, & Torche-y. |
10 | | Girl Talk All Day
It's Girl Talk. What else is there to say? |
11 | | The Sword Warp Riders
2010's best album with artwork that looks like space-butt shooting out a turd. |
12 | | Kvelertak Kvelertak
2010's best album whose name I still can't pronounce. "Kuh-vel-er-tack?" |
13 | | Deerhunter Halcyon Digest
2010's best album I waited too long on. |
14 | | The Chariot Long Live
2010's best album I almost never gave a chance. |
15 | | Blitzen Trapper Destroyer of the Void
2010's best folk album with a metal title. |
16 | | Hank Williams III Rebel Within
Dude's still got it. |
17 | | East of the Wall Ressentiment
This band has filled my Poison the Well void. |
18 | | Howl Full of Hell
What's taking these guys so long for a follow-up? |
19 | | Son of Aurelius The Farthest Reaches
This album has actually aged pretty gracefully... |
20 | | Ihsahn After
Not quite angL, but solid nonetheless. |
21 | | Poney Seamyth
"The Nephew" (get the album free @ http://poney.bandcamp.com/album/seamyth) |
22 | | Horseback The Invisible Mountain
"Tyrant Symmetry" |
23 | | Battlefields Thresholds of Imbalance
"Disacknowledge" |
24 | | Rosetta A Determinism of Morality
"Revolve" |
25 | | Cephalic Carnage Misled by Certainty
"Dimensional Modulation Transmography" |
