| Porcupine Tree Ranked
Porcupine Tree's albums in order of greatness | | 1 | | Porcupine Tree In Absentia
An incredible record, manages to be dark and almost metallic at times without losing the progressive nature that the band has always had.
Best Track: Gravity Eyelids | | 2 | | Porcupine Tree Stupid Dream
Some of PT's best individual songs here, slightly more poppy than other albums but great nonetheless.
Best Track: Even Less | | 3 | | Porcupine Tree Fear of a Blank Planet
The concept album with the sometimes clunky and cheesy lyrics comes very near to being a classic.
Best Track: Anesthetize | | 4 | | Porcupine Tree The Sky Moves Sideways
A wonderful slice of good, old-fashioned, prog. This is where the comparisons between PT and Pink Floyd really started...and it's not hard to see why.
Best Track: The Sky Moves Sideways (Phase One) | | 5 | | Porcupine Tree Lightbulb Sun
A pretty good album for the most part, similar in style to Stupid Dream, but one or two of the tracks are a little disappointing.
Best Track: Russia On Ice | | 6 | | Porcupine Tree Deadwing
This album doesn't quite work for me I'm afraid. I feel it tries to be a bit too 'metallic' at times and the lyrics are quite poor too on occasion.
Best Track: Arriving Somewhere But Not Here | | 7 | | Porcupine Tree Signify
A more ambient and dance influenced release for PT; it's very good but I personally feel it is too much like a collection of tracks and it doesn't flow that well.
Best Track: Idiot Prayer | | 8 | | Porcupine Tree Up The Downstair
The album that hinted at the greatness PT would later achieve but didn't quite realise it.
Best Track: Burning Sky | | 9 | | Porcupine Tree On The Sunday of Life...
PT are one of those bands that sadly released a debut album that's miles worse than anything they've done since (like Radiohead with Pablo Honey, for example).
Best Track: Radioactive Toy | |

06.19.09 | what about voyage 34 | PuddleSwimmer
06.19.09 | Very decent list, could agree with most
I like a lot of their EPs also though | Mendigo
06.19.09 | cool list, 3 is my favorite. also the only three albums I don't have yet are the last three ones on the list ^^
however, let us not forget that No-Man and I.E.M. have albums that are at least as good as most of the PT stuff. not that much a fan of Blackfield (anymore) though. | PayneTiger777
06.19.09 | Deadwing is way too low for me. I would have that first and then In Absentia. | Nagrarok
06.19.09 | 3,6,1,2,4,5,7,8,9 for me, roughly. | PuddleSwimmer
06.19.09 | Follow the list, my friend, but listen to Deadwing | Phantom
06.19.09 | Now the sound of music

06.19.09 | Sullen and bored the kids stay
And in this way they wish away each day…
Stoned in the mall the kids play
And in this way wish away each day | Tempertemperature
09.02.09 | Wow 6 should be higher.
I'd probably go 2,1,6,3 then rest. | Wish
09.02.09 | Yeah, six should definitely be higher. | PuddlesPuddles
09.02.09 | Not sure where The Incident falls yet...I don't think it surpasses FOABP...but its pretty damn great.... | Nagrarok
09.02.09 | It's funny how PT's albums roughly get better in chronological order for me. | fromtheinside
09.02.09 | i like 1 and 3 haven't heard the rest. | Masochist
09.02.09 | Right, so I've got '...Blank Planet' and 'In Absentia', and I think I enjoy 'In Absentia' a bit more. I'm going to get 'The Incident' when it comes out, but if I were to go into the back catalogue, what might I get next...'Deadwing', 'Lightbulb Sun' or 'Stupid Dream'? | Nagrarok
09.02.09 | Deadwing. |
