My Thoughts After 5 Years On Sputnik

So I just realized that my five year sputversary already passed, and it's kind of ridiculous to think that I've spent most of that time actually engaged in reviewing/commenting/etc. When I first joined I was in college...I had my group of friends but when I'd come home, I was just a lonely kid with no girlfriend who relied on music to "get" how I was feeling because to be honest, and I don't care how emo this sounds, nobody else around me did. They all seemed to find ways, girlfriend boyfriend or single, to be content...and it bothered me that I couldn't be like that too. So I spent a boat load of time caring way too much about music...analyzing lyrics, crushing on hot indie-pop girls, and swearing that everything Jesse Lacey and Matt Berninger wrote was applicable to my life.rA lot has changed since then. I graduated from college, got a full time job working in the city, moved out of my parents' house, filed a restraining order against a psychopathic neighbor, moved back home, chased after a girl I was in love with for 5 long unrequited years...and then, last year, I got a full-time "real" teaching job, entered a relationship with the love of my life (same girl as before), and as recently as last week I got an even better job that's half the distance from my home and will allow me to look at apartments with the gf. As my life has come together, my time on the site has dwindled significantly. Half the time I log on I'm not sure who half the users are, and I wonder what happened to guys like Tiesthatbind. At least Irving is still around, I guess. But anyhow, what I'm trying to say is that it's been a good run. I don't see myself making a 'comeback' per se, but I'll still contribute the occasional blog post and review when I can. rTo those of you who are aspiring writers - this is a great platform for developing your writing and getting good feedback, and I hope that you all will take advantage of that...you know, if professional music criticism is a goal of yours. As for everyone in general, I'll see you around the site when I can! List is 25 albums/users that I feel I've made a particularly strong bond with during my time here.
1Brand New
The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me

Irving - thanks for all the good times, mate. The past few years on here wouldn't have been the same without you.
2Radiohead
Kid A

Adam Downer - coolest user ever. Let me know if you ever want to grab a beer in Philly.
3Swans
The Seer

Davey Boy - always got something nice to say, and I appreciate that. Keep on recommending great pop, pop-rock, pop-anything!
4Tigers on Trains
Grandfather

Eli - We conversed more as users before either of us became contribs or staff, but you have great taste.
5Jimmy Eat World
Futures

Omaha - you're almost as nice as Irving dude. Thanks for all your contributions to my playlist blog.
6Manchester Orchestra
Simple Math

Tiesthatbind - I rarely see you around anymore but you were definitely one of my first friends on this site. Hope you're doing well!
7Yellowcard
Southern Air

Lakes - The artist and album I've been placing users under has pretty much been random, but how do you like being under YC? We go back to the Styx discog days, live long and prosper my friend.
8The National
High Violet

Rudy Klapper - It's been fun trying to review all the same albums as you
9The Antlers
Burst Apart

Romulus - I still remember being pissed off when your The Sound of Madness review didn't get flagged
10The Republic of Wolves
Varuna

Willie - Thanks for promoting me, I had a great time writing as a contributor and staff, just wished I could have stuck around longer. You're a really good mod.
11The Decemberists
The King Is Dead

Deviant. - I never really got into the same kinds of music as you, but I respect your taste and your abilities as a writer. Twas fun getting promoted to both contrib and staff at the same time as you.
12Frightened Rabbit
The Midnight Organ Fight

Gyromania - You've always been one of the most reasonable people to discuss/debate music with, and you're a stellar reviewer when you take the time to actually do it! ;)
13Frank Turner
England Keep My Bones

Knott - What can I say man, you were one of my biggest influences as a reviewer. I can see how much you are starting to accomplish on your own and I know the future holds great things for you.
14The Dear Hunter
The Color Spectrum (Complete Collection)

Jom - See Willie. Thanks for all you do behind the scenes, you truly hold this site together.
15The Milk Carton Kids
Prologue

Robin Smith - one of my favorite writers on the site, cool as hell to talk to also
16Converge
Jane Doe

Chan - Half the time you mock me so I'm not sure exactly what our Sputnik relationship has been, but who the hell cares. You're a funny dude and a great writer, I wish you the best of luck.
17Taylor Swift
Speak Now

Adam Thomas - just another phenomenal writer who got me interested in writing about music
18Bon Iver
For Emma, Forever Ago

TheSpirit - You were always under the radar on this site, but the quality of your work never wavered. Like a lot of the older users I haven't seen you around lately, so I hope life is treating you well.
19Neutral Milk Hotel
In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

andcas - I'm still and always will be baffled by some of your ratings, but you stick to your guns and I respect that.
20Anberlin
Cities

Somberlain/Tinkrbel - Your alt was more amusing than your main account, but I enjoyed all the list games you used to make. Tinkrbel is forever enshrined in the alt hall of fame.
21Arcade Fire
Funeral

Nagrarok - I never understood why you couldn't make the leap into modern music, but to each his own. You gave me a lot of feedback in my earlier days, and for that I'm grateful.
22Opeth
Damnation

SeaAnemone - I hope you didn't see this list before I changed it! You'd probably kill me. I miss your indie recs, dude. Hope life is well let's hit up Shady Maple some time and talk about how much Elliott Smith affects us.
23Armistice
Armistice

Aids - After 214 reviews all the comments start to blend together, but I'm pretty sure you always gave me constructive feedback and were a nice fella to converse with. Cheers.
24Florence and the Machine
Ceremonials

toxin - I thoroughly enjoyed all the threads we had conversations in...you were always one of the closest to me in terms of musical preferences. I hope you continue to enjoy your time here and I'll still come back on occasion just to talk alt-rock and pop-punk with you.
25Thursday
No Devolucion

Tyraelxy - You didn't really think I'd leave you off this list, do you? Hit me up on FB chat sometime.
