| My Top 5 Rappers Of All-time
Thought that given the recent amount of these lists I might as well give my 2 cents. | 1 | GZA
The man is a legend, there's no other way to put it. He is hip-hop royalty, and you'd be foolish to disagree. | 2 | DOOM
I love his sound, his flow, and his production. Always a great listen, really interesting delivery. | 3 | Del The Funky Homosapien
He's got a great delivery, and really refreshing subject matter. Anyone who writes about his desire to destroy the world with a computer virus, or his bum friends sleeping on his couch is cool in my book. | 4 | Big L
So much potential, too little time. Lifestyles Ov Da Poor and Dangerous was a great glimpse into what could have been. A very talented rapper. | 5 | MC Ren
The most underrated rapper of an era. For anyone who hasn't heard his stuff, check it out immediately. In sum, he never sold out, he never became a joke, and he was always an awesome talent. Kizz my Black Azz should be up there with the great albums from the West Coast Rap scene. | 6 | Opeth

07.20.09 | A quick sidenote:
I tried not to be too lenient to certain groups of artists. That is why I only have GZA and Ren respectively from Wu-Tang and N.W.A., I tried to restrict my bias. Otherwise I would gladly consider Ghostface, Method Man, Ice Cube, etc. | atrink
07.20.09 | eminem should be here for his old stuff | shindip
07.20.09 | Yeah, Eminem is a really good rapper overall. Trailer Park Boys ftw! | scyther
07.20.09 | Eminem is too inconsistent. | TricksterGRex
07.20.09 | countorus should i listen to mc ren? | ilikemusic
07.20.09 | My thoughts on Eminem:
I find his vocals to be infuriating, his content to be lacking, and his reputation to be piggybacking Dre more often then not. There are a few of his songs which I find enjoyable, a few that get me super pumped at the gym or whatever, and the rest do nothing to interest me. I understand he has become some sort of icon for this generation but I personally cannot deal with him. As far as I'm concerned the talent is there but there's nothing to keep me interested and as has been previously noted he is extremely inconsistent. | TricksterGRex
07.20.09 | no new rap? i bet you could appreciate the new POS or some dalek | ilikemusic
07.20.09 | I've got to agree with the preference to the older stuff, granted I've only really dove into the genre within the last 2 years or so but I'm pretty picky, and just haven't found much in recent releases to get excited about.
Re: MC Ren
The man is the least known legend on the face of the earth, basically start with Kizz My Black Azz, and if you like what you hear (you will) check out Ruthless for Life. They're two of my favourite rap albums ever. | TricksterGRex
07.20.09 | P.O.S. - Never Better
dalek - From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots
too lazy to think of anything else right now | ilikemusic
07.20.09 | @ fromtheinside - you like chevelle and thrice so I will give you the benefit of the doubt, but I've got to completely and totally disagree with your ideas for this one. | jredmond
07.20.09 | jay electronica | scyther
07.20.09 | Their influence has absolutely nothing to do with personal opinion of them. This is something 90 percent of rap fans don't seem to understand. | scyther
07.20.09 | Influence has nothing to do with personal appeal. Yes, a lot of people like them, but that doesn't mean you have to like them also. | TricksterGRex
07.20.09 | obviously you just started listening to hip hop yesterday | TricksterGRex
07.20.09 | @fromtheinside | TricksterGRex
07.20.09 | influence and appeal are not related in any genre, basically what you said is the equivalent of saying that because Mayhem influenced a wave of black metal bands that they should be the most respected when they make mediocre albums | ilikemusic
07.20.09 | Regarding the mini-debacle going on:
My list is essentially an interpretation of the most talented artists I have heard and listen to. Quite frankly their influence on the genre is irrelevant to me. LL Cool J's primary function was to bring rap to the mainstream, he did that and then the quality of music he put out was mediocre at best. After Radio, he put out garbage, plain and simple. Biggie, while talented, had the table set for him by Wu-Tang Clan, and (imo) is nowhere near as good as some of the members of Wu hence why he is not on this list. | thebbqshrimp
07.20.09 | A great list. I agree with all six, most definitely. Have you heard AmpLive? It's Del The Funky Homosapien mashed with Radiohead's "In Rainbows" album. It's unbelievable.
Anywho, just some other names for consideration: Busta Rhymes, Andre Nickatina, Immortal Technique, Andre 3000, Tech N9ne. | KTV
07.20.09 | Q-Tip |
