| Rise Against Setlist (27/3/'09)
As expected, it was an absolutely terrific night. Local band A Death In The Family kicked things off well, before The (International) Noise Conspiracy worked their asses off to win over a crowd who initially wondered why Rise Against would choose a bunch of purple suit-wearing Swedes to support them! And then Rise Against absolutely went full-tilt for 80 odd minutes. Even being in the audience was akin to playing sport when you had to be on the move for the same duration without any rest at all. A great experience. | 1 | Drones
Quality opener that had a nice combo of the rocking out & sing-along factor. | 2 | Give It All
I initially thought this track was a touch over-rated, but have grown to really like it of late. It lifts a further level live. | 3 | State of the
Pan-de-monium. | 4 | Ready To Fall
Fan-f'n-tastic. Had everyone both screaming & singing along. | 5 | Injection | 6 | Re-Education (Through Labor)
Most of the tracks from the new album actually played well live & this was no exception. | 7 | Chamber The Cartridge | 8 | Stained Glass and Marble
I have no idea why this song is on the setlist. The perfect spot for 'Everchanging' to come along & give everyine - band included - a breather. | 9 | Behind Closed Doors
Often forgotten and under-rated song desrves its place here. | 10 | Life Less Frightening
As expected; great. | 11 | Like The Angel
If I had any little doubts about the greatness of this song previously, they are gone now. Sounded sensational live. | 12 | Collapse (Post-Amerika)
The song from 'Appeal To Reason' which sounded best live. | 13 | Heaven Knows | 14 | Long Forgotten Sons | 15 | The Good Left Undone
Totally blew me away. Rise Against clicked into full gear with this one & hearing the crowd yell out "All because of you..." sounded awesome. Equal 3rd best performance of the night. | 16 | Hero Of War
The first song of a 5 song encore... Not too bad, but the vocals were mixed a little high, probably because the full band unnecessarily came out for the final minute or so. | 17 | Swing Life Away
No problems here as Tim was spot on all by his lonesome. The crowd knew every word too. 2nd best performance of the night. | 18 | Survive
I'm biased towards this song. Needless to say, it was phenomenal hearing it live. Equal 3rd best performance of the night. | 19 | Audience Of One
I guess they always have to play the new single. Sounded pretty good too. | 20 | Prayer Of The Refugee
Ho-leeeeeeeeeeeeee f*ck!!! I think it was Spamue1 who told me this song was brilliant live. I'm not one who had thought this to be one of Rise Against's best 3 recorded songs & I can't say the recorded live version that is a bonus track on some versions of 'Appeal To Reason' is all that great... But this was toally mind-blowing. The power, the emotion, the words, etc, etc, etc... It just all came together for one mind-blowing experience & I can totally understand why Rise Against close with this. One word: WOW!!! | |

03.28.09 | For those counting, the breakdown per album is as follows:
1 from 'The Unraveling'
2 from 'Revolutions Per Minute'
4 from 'Siren Song of the Counter Culture'
8 from 'The Sufferer & The Witness'
5 from 'Appeal To Reason'
Great setlist, but if I had my choice, I'd include 'Everchanging', 'Broken English', 'Paper Wings' and 'Savior' instead of 'Stained Glass', 'Heaven Knows', 'Injection' and 'Long Forgotten Sons'. | marksellsuswallets
03.28.09 | Like The Angel is pretty much one of my top songs from them I would love to see them play it live. | DaveyBoy
03.28.09 | I edited in comments, but they aren't appearing, so I'm putting them here:
Drones: Quality opener that had a nice combo of the rocking out & sing-along factor.
Give It All: I initially thought this track was a touch over-rated, but have grown to really like it of late. It lifts a further level live.
State Of The Union: Pan-de-monium.
Ready To Fall: Fan-f'n-tastic. Had everyone both screaming & singing along.
Injection
Re-Education (Through Labor): Most of the tracks from the new album actually played well live & this was no exception.
Chamber The Cartridge
Stained Glass And Marble: I have no idea why this song is on the setlist. The perfect spot for 'Everchanging' to come along & give everyine - band included - a breather.
Behind Closed Doors: Often forgotten and under-rated song desrves its place here.
Life Less Frightening: As expected; great.
Like The Angel: If I had any little doubts about the greatness of this song previously, they are gone now. Sounded sensational live.
Collapse (Post-Amerika): The song from 'Appeal To Reason' which sounded best live.
Heaven Knows
Long Forgotten Sons
The Good Left Undone: Totally blew me away. Rise Against clicked into full gear with this one & hearing the crowd yell out "All because of you..." sounded awesome. Equal 3rd best performance of the night.
Hero Of War: The first song of a 5 song encore... Not too bad, but the vocals were mixed a little high, probably because the full band unnecessarily came out for the final minute or so.
Swing Life Away: No problems here as Tim was spot on all by his lonesome. The crowd knew every word too. 2nd best performance of the night.

Prayer Of The Refugee: Ho-leeeeeeeeeeeeee f*ck!!! I think it was Spamue1 who told me this song was brilliant live. 03.28.09 | Looks like you enjoyed yourself a lot Davey! I went and saw Rook last night, got to meet them as well! Turns out they used to go to my school. So sounds like we both had an awesome night. | DaveyBoy
03.28.09 | Good stuff Billy. I actually thought of you briefly since there were a few guys with Mammal t-shirts on at the Rise Against gig. | Vooligan
03.28.09 | haha nice. Im still yet to check these guys out, where should i start? | DaveyBoy
03.28.09 | Cue 4 people answering different albums. Umm, I'd have to say begin with their best in 'The Sufferer & The Witness'. That's a perfect 5 for me. | tinathefatlard
03.28.09 | I saw them towards the end of last year, and they finished with the same song too.... I remember leaving the concert feeling pumped up. | ninjuice
03.28.09 | mammalian go with Sufferer first, then Revolutions (since it's their 2nd best and you don't wanna get accustomed to the newer stuff before you can enjoy RPM as much). Then Siren Song and Appeal to Reason, I haven't got Unraveling. | XXXpickemgenius
03.28.09 | Nice to see you had a good time.
:D | DaveyBoy
03.28.09 | "pumped up" is an under-statement tinathefatlard! I couldn't agree with you more.
Interesting comment re: RPM ninjuice... Especially with my upcoming review of that album.
Thanks XXX. | Spamue1G
03.28.09 | You're right in thinking that it was me who told you Prayer Of The Refugee was amazing live... I don't think I've ever seen a band with as much energy as Rise Against during that song (although my live experience is limited).
I'm sad to hear that you didn't think Hero Of War was that great, that was one of my favourite songs of the evening when I saw them, though second prize for my favourite performance has to go to State Of The Union, the pit was in complete chaos at that point. | Fugue
03.28.09 | Awesome set-list, still need to hear more Rise Against | Douchebag
03.28.09 | I was listening to 'sufferer' last night thinking, they are probably playing this song right now as I listen!! | DaveyBoy
03.28.09 | Well, you were right on the money Spamue1. The amazing thing about the energy they show during 'Prayer of the Refugee' is that it comes after 80 odd minutes of balls to the wall stuff. These guys must actually be super fit. Re: 'Hero of War', I probably had higher expectations of it because I am one who likes that song. It was also interesting to note that there was no anti-war speech before it. In fact, there was very little of those kinds of speeches throughout the night. For some reason, I was expecting a few.
Get to listening to them more Ross.
Well Croc, since they played 8 from that album, then you probably had a great chance of being correct. | CushMG15
03.28.09 | I missed the chance to see these guys with Thrice and Gaslight Anthem. Why? Because I'm a fucking retard, thats why.
Looks like a good setlist here. | Cesar
03.28.09 | That would have been the most amazing concert Crush. I can only dream about that. | DaveyBoy
03.28.09 | CushMG15, I've said it a few times before & I'll say it again, that would have been like a mini-festival that gig; Rise Against, Thrice, Gaslight Anthem and I'm certain that for most dates Alkaline Trio was also with them. If those 4 bands were on a festival line-up & the rest of the line-up was total rubbish, I'd happily pay over $100 for whatever festival it was.
ThriceRemoved, you're right; 'Blood Red White & Blue' would have been one hell of a hectic piece played live. I guess 'State of the Union' gets that spot at present. | CushMG15
03.29.09 | Yeah dude, now that you mention it, Alkaline trio was with them. I fucked up bad by missing that show. | DaveyBoy
03.29.09 | From memory, I think their next tour of the States will be with Rancid. That's a very good support act, but almost sounds lame when compared with Thrice, Alk3 & Gaslight Anthem! | tinathefatlard
03.30.09 | That's the concert I saw them at, with Thrice, the gaslight Anthem and the Alkaline trio was there too. | DaveyBoy
03.30.09 | ^^^ You are very lucky to see those 4 acts on the one night. How were the other bands? |
