Music-::-A Lifetime

Over my life I've attached myself to certain artists. I tend to always have a 'favorite' and each of these have a very special place in my heart/life. I'd like to take a trip down memory lane...
1 Everly Brothers
I have no clue

(Era: Pre-school - Elementary school)
I was young once and raised on a steady diet of oldies with my loving parents. The Beach Boys were a good second place at this age.
2Jars of Clay
Jars of Clay

(Era: 6th grade)
Became a Christian when I entered Junior High and immediately clung to this seminal album (to CCM). Love song for a savior was my anthem through hilariously tough times...
3Blink-182
The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show

(Era: 7th grade)
Who didn't love blink? Saw them live twice and played their live album so much that it wore off its coating. It's funny how such popular bands get you introduced into different, more extreme ways of living. The skate punk kid in me started to blossom
4Incubus
Make Yourself

(Era: 8th grade)
Until crow left from the murder, these guys were my love. From SCIENCE's still creepy bonus track to the groovy jazz stuff, they should've never rid themselves of their epic bass guitarist
5Thursday
Full Collapse

(Era: All of high school)
I saw the music video for Understanding in a car crash and I remember being frozen to the red-glazed mic swings and screams of Mr. Rickly. This coordinated pretty well with me starting to drive, and screaming memorized lyrics from a mixed cd that covered three of their albums. Damn I love thursday.
6The Blood Brothers
Crimes

(Era: Fresh/Soph years of college)
I moved to another state for college to get away from Texas; I found the blood brothers and found my identity in their complete musical rebellion. This felt like a natural transition from thursday in many ways because the lyrics were cryptic enough and the attitude was vicious enough to be my own. I also got to meet Johnny on their last tour... his teeth are crazy yellow
7Sufjan Stevens
Seven Swans

(Era: Rest of college through my first bachelor's degree)
This in many ways harps back to my love for jars of clay. Sufjan is honestly artistic; meaning he may not be talking about reality, but he's speaking the truth. My faith is lodged dead-center in "Vito's ordination song"
8Animal Collective
Strawberry Jam

(Era: This year (beginning of second bachelor's))
I remember when I "got" Avey Tare. This wasn't all that long ago, but I remember crying in my truck on the way to work hearing fireworks. I was lonely, missing my family, and stressed and I felt like I had heard something truly celebrating living. I felt selfish, alive, and hopeful all at once... even today, hearing the b-side "safer" i was inspired to write a list like this. I hope you all enjoyed this.
