Baph's 2010 Part I: The Try-Harder-Next-Time-Around Albums

I'll be on vacation in two weeks so I figured, what the hell I have listened to more than renough. More than 100 albums from 2010 rhave felt the warm embrace of my ears and here rI present to you rthe very best of those albums: My top 50 divided in a three-part list. Today rI rpresent to you the first part; very good, enjoyable albums rthat just don't have what it rtakes rto make them that memorable, rbut still are great listens that you shouldn't miss. rWithout further rado I give to you albums 50-31.
20Menomena
Mines

Say the band's name 20 times in a row. I dare you. Now that you're done, this indie rock album will prove even more amusing than that tongue-twister.
19Black Breath
Heavy Breathing

Great hardcore. That is all.
18Caleb McAlpine
Science Fiction

Reasons to listen to this: 1. It's free. 2. It's pretty damm good. 3. McNuggets does have a sexy voice and it's ok admiting it if you're ok with your sexuality.
17Twilight
Monument To Time End

In the fight of giving some respect back to the noun "twilight", the black metal supergroup are making a fine job.
16Trophy Scars
Darkness, Oh Hell

Anyone who ditches the punk genre and then releases something this good is ok in my book.
15Deerhunter
Halcyon Digest

I might get a lot of hate for this, but as good as this may be it's nowhere as impressing as its predecessor.
14Tides of Man
Dreamhouse

If it is catchy post-hardcore/prog rock you want, these guys can hook you up.
13Ellie Goulding
Lights

Amazing voice, but the songwriting can drag a bit.
12The Contortionist
Exoplanet

These guys show an interesting progressive side of their DM in Exoplanet.
11Delorean
Subiza

This album touches me... inappropriately. I love indie electropop, plus I'm of spanish descent so I'm used to the balearic sounds. This is a killer album for chilling and for the beach.
10Ferry Corsten
Right of Way (Deluxe Edition)

Your party is not complete without this. Period.
9Make do And Mend
End Measured Mile

Catchy and fun, but can get old rather quick.
8Kerouac
Cold and Distant, Not Loving

A great year for hardcore this has been, hasn't it?
7Lunik
Small Lights in the Dark

For those of you who don't know, I have a thing for female fronted pop. And while some of the songs can cross the depresive line too often, SLITD is anything but depressing. It's one of those albums that when, not heard, but listened to can help you put things into perspective.
6The Tallest Man on Earth
The Wild Hunt

Getting over the annoying voice of the singer will reward you with one of the best folk albums of 2010.
5Black Swan
Black Swan (In 8 Movements)

Ambient that will make you fucking paranoid.
4As I Lay Dying
The Powerless Rise

The album title might remind you of erectile disfuncion, but make no mistake: TPR won't let you down when things get hot and heavy. Nowhere near "generic" metalcore and with thrash elements sprinkled above it, this might be the band's most agressive release.
3Melechesh
The Epigenesis

Sumerian Black Metal. Yes, it might get a tad gimmicky and it doesn't have the "shock and awe" element that made Sphynx so good, but Melechesh can do no wrong.
2In Mourning
Monolith

To me, a step in the wrong direction from the band that gave us one of the best albums of 2008. But if you can get over the deathcore part, it's still a fine release.
1Kalmah
12 Gauge

Catchy, well-executed melodeath. The thing about this album is that while it doesn't impress that much nor is anything quite special; it's still one of those albums you can sink your teeth in any time and it won't sound boring. It might get a tad generic, though.
