AngelofDeath 04.27.11	6 and 8 are outstanding. If you like The Art of War, try The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi. Also, get some Tolstoy and Dostoevsky.
Testicus 04.27.11	Read the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. It's a series of twelve books that are absolutely amazing. After I finished the last one and closed it I decided right then that I would never read something that I enjoyed that much ever again.

Question on 4, is it real Irish mythology or more fantasy-influenced? If it's the real thing I'm gonna have to read that. 1 and 3 are even school lectures here in Germany for advanced courses, even I heard some people can't cope with the content.

BallsToTheWall 04.27.11	Triple post FTW. I read Goebells put Hans in an insane asylum because he refused to write an anti semitic story. He also never joined the party. it's that kind of defiance and exercise of free will that excites me so much about German resistance. and yeah lol Rituals. Anton really make some points amidst some cheesiness.
BallsToTheWall 04.27.11	it's real Irish myhology but there are some magical elements, he is a demigod after all. He single handedly slaughters hundreds and hundreds of men in the book while all the denizens of his land are cast under a spell. His death which isn't described in the book is super epic and dublin has a figure of him by the post office. I read he played a huge symbol of strength for the Irish during their struggles.

Wolfhorde 04.27.11	Sputnik didn't function as it should some minutes ago. Therefore the triple post, just delete the 2 unnecessary ones. Well, yeah people here can be pretty stubborn about their freedom and stuff. Got a big history with that. Even though some people nowadays should maybe take an example by that. Yeah, he definitely has some valid points and I think it's also sometimes kind of sarcastic. Sounds pretty good. But well, ever read the Völuspa? There's also some crazy shit in there, as in every mythology. I just want to know if it's credible mythology or something like the Snorri-Edda (which is hugely influenced by christian beliefs).
Hyperion1001 04.27.11	You should try some Clive Barker balls. I just finished Weaveworld and it was one of the strangest and most original horror/fantasy books i've read in a while. His Hellbound Heart stuff is really good too.

Wolfhorde 04.27.11	Nah, it's norse/germanic. It gathered all the known songs about norse mythology. I'd guess the name is Norwegian or another Scandinavian/Germanic language. It also features the song in which Thor smashes Thrym (a king of the giants) while disguised as Freya. Sounds good, gotta get my hands on that.

Vesper 04.27.11	Another obvious choice, but Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting. I second/third House of Leaves and The Road. McCarthy writes biblical prose without the crap. Also, anything by Neil Gaiman. Sandman, American Gods, Good Omens, Anansi Boys, etc. Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Capote's In Cold Blood are among my favorite classics... I could go on, haha.

BallsToTheWall 04.27.11	Will web these books. aLSO HAVE NO INTENTION OF READING mOBY dick. I read part of The road. The movie's ending was deeply emotional to me. I have no doubt the book would affect me as much.
Vesper 04.27.11	The movie was great, but the book is so much better. I wish they could have taken more of the script directly from the text, since he's such an excellent writer. It's definitely the most emotional of McCarthy's work and unusual, but you should try out his other work, namely Blood Meridian, No Country for Old Men, and the Border Trilogy.
