Masochist Ranks Video Game Music

My favorite video game music. I'll get killed for rrrwhat I don't put on rhere, but if I haven't played rrit, it doesn't exist ;-r).
2Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

Tied for 1st; introduced me to Bad Religion, Millencolin, etc.
3Tony Hawk's Underground

Tied for 1st; Refused, Hot Water Music, NOFX, In Flames, Nas, Rise Against,
4Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Single-handedly made 80's music cool again.
5SSX 3

Excellent mix of electronic and pop-punk. Even better, every song was the
master track version, so one song could actually last an entire run, cut
vocals at anytime (like inside of caves), and the song ended when you
6NFL Street

Classic hip-hop ftw.
7Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4

Expanded the usual sound of a THPS soundtrack and paved the way for the
pinnacle that was the soundtrack for THUG.
8Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Good mix of 90's music.
9Dave Mirra Pro BMX

Single-handedly made me fall in love with Sublime and Deftones.
10XGRA: Xtreme 'G' Racing Association

Introduced me to BT, Celldweller, etc.
11Need For Speed: Underground 2
12TOP 10 OST's
13Metroid Prime

The atmosphere created by the music on this game is some of the best I've
ever heard in a video game soundtrack. The whole Prime series is
awesome, but I'm most familiar with the music on the first one.
14Chrono Trigger

It's amazing how well some of the songs on SNES games hold up, and none hold
up better than Chrono Trigger. Some of the best music I've ever heard in any
video game, let alone one made back in 1994!
15Donkey Kong Country

The music of this game is probably more iconic to the SNES than the music
for Super Mario World.
16Mirror's Edge

Solar Fields did every track of the OST, except one--"Still Alive" was done by
Lisa Miskovsky, and that is one of the best original "pop" songs for a video
game I've ever heard (barely beating out another song with the same
17Shadow of the Colossus

It takes a mastery of music to make those colossi even bigger, but this
soundtrack does it. If I ever had to use the word EPIC to describe a video
game OST, this one earns it, hands down.
18Metal Gear Solid

Again, atmosphere. Original music in video games has to be more than just
pretty sounds; they have to enhance the emotions that you're already
feeling. In the case of the original MGS, just try to listen to "Encounter"
without your heart beating faster, with or without a guard around the
19Sonic II

Remains to this day my favorite Sonic game, thanks in very large part to the
20Super Smash Bros. Brawl

36 of the best composers to ever work for Nintendo come together to work
on a single soundtrack? YES, PLS. The music was definitely the best part of
this game.
21SimCity 4

This is a biased choice, but most everyone who's played SC4 will tell you
that Jerry Martin did an amazing job on the ambient/electronic soundtrack.
22Super Mario World

My favorite Mario soundtrack.
24Still Alive (Mirror's Edge)
25Jungle Hijinx (Donkey Kong Country)
26The Best Is Yet To Come (Metal Gear Solid)
27Still Alive (Portal)
28Phendrana Drifts (Metroid Prime
29Ocarina's Medley (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)
30At The Bottom Of The Night or Chrono Trigger Theme (Chrono Trigger);
31Big Blue Remix (F-Zero GX)
32The Opened Way (Shadow of the Colossus)
33Terrain (SimCity 4)
35SimCity (SNES)

The soundtrack was one of those classic things that only a person who
played this game could understand.
36Wing Cap Theme (Super Mario 64)
37Giza Plains (Final Fantasy XII)
38Hell March 2 (Red Alert 2)
