Jethro42
07.27.11 | win win win win win
Hope that list will bring a minimum of love to the genre.
I know exactly the half of this list.
My faves are 2, 4, 6, 11, 14, 15, 18, 25, 26, 27, 32, 37, 39, 41, 43, 49
I still have to listen to 19
I want badly 42
Should I try 28?
Anyway list is bookmarked cos of the other half of these I've never heard. |
tarkus
07.27.11 | great list but, queens of the stone age's lullabies but not songs for the deaf? |

07.27.11 | Man I love this genre |

FUCK YEAH! I do find the lack of High On Fire a little concerning, though. |
tarkus
07.27.11 | "Songs for the Deaf is so overrated."
Yeah I know it is, I've just never seen anyone say lullabies is better than it. I personally think self titled is the best |
BigHans
07.27.11 | I think S/T might be the best too, either that or Rated R |
tarkus
07.27.11 | both rule |

07.27.11 | "I personally think self titled is the best"
This is the guy |
Comatorium.
07.27.11 | Not stoner, but listen to the new TS EP after a joint and tell me its not awesome. |
BigHans
07.27.11 | I find 28 to be a bit overrated as well, the only song I ever really jam off it is Honey Bucket. |

07.27.11 | wouldnt consider bands like acid king or EW 'rock' by any stretch but its not like it matters anyway |
greg84
07.27.11 | Songs For The Deaf is very good too. This was my personal choice. I find Lullabies very underrated.
Let's stop talking about genres. Lots of albums on this list are not pure stoner rock tbh.
High On Fire? Weedeater? Let's put it this way: I'm not really into them.
Pentagram? Yes sir. Now we're talking. |
Skweetis
07.27.11 | Spine of God? |
DominionMM1
07.27.11 | What about Alabama Thunderpussy? |
greg84
07.27.11 | Not this genre... but then again Down is on here. |
eatdogs
07.27.11 | bongzilla
superjoint ritual
soilent green
cannabis corpse
guano apes
crowbar
i think most of these are sludge metal, but they might also be a lil' stoner rock... |
greg84
07.27.11 | Guano Apes? Bongzilla is definitely stoner. Superjoint is hardcore. The rest is sludge. If I had done it like that the list would have about 150 albums, sir. |
greg84
07.27.11 | Down is stoner rock/metal according to last.fm. Ha. So, I'm not the only one. |
NigelH
07.27.11 | Songs For The Deaf is better than Lullabies.....pretty comprehensive list though, so w/e. |
greg84
07.27.11 | ^I figured when Lullabies came out that most people think so. This is my list though. |
Metalstyles
07.27.11 | Sexy list man. I've heard about half of these and most of them rule. QOTSA is so damn overrated though, don't fancy them much. Anyway, definitely some stuff to look into here, I'll keep this list in mind for the future. |
eatdogs
07.27.11 | "Superjoint is hardcore"
yes, and i love them for that. i only mentioned them because of the pot leaf on the cd to their first album lol... |
greg84
07.27.11 | @Magnus: Thanks man. Frankly, I find QOTSA extremely influential. That's why I included 2 albums of theirs.
@eatdogs: Yeah. They have this thing going for them. Not only this thing of course. ;) |
eatdogs
07.27.11 | greg84, you should check out curren$y. pretty good weed rap. |

07.27.11 | cool list, should probably be featured becuase more people need to get into the genre here.
here's another bad ass stoner rock list: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?mode=1&listid=75823 |
kangaroopoo
07.28.11 | great list, plenty I need to check out
corrosion of conformity - deliverance
floodgate - penalty
fu manchu - in search of (my fave of theirs) |
greg84
07.28.11 | @Steel: I know, man. I just realized I was going out of space at some point. Some bands objectively should have been here, but I was too lazy to add them to the database.
@kangaroopoo: I've never been much into CoC for some reason. I'll try to fix it. Haven't heard of Floodgate. |

07.28.11 | dead meadow |

07.28.11 | No Spiritual Beggars "Ad Astra"? Mmmmm........
|
greg84
07.28.11 | It's not here due to space limitations. I just slightly perfer On Fire. |
JamieTwort
07.28.11 | On Fire is a great album. Ad Astra rules too. |
Jethro42
07.28.11 | fucking impressive list |
greg84
07.28.11 | I agree. Ad Astra is great and so is Demons. Their new album is quite mediocre tbh.
Thanks Jethro. |
Jethro42
07.28.11 | I'm jamming on Halfway to Gone atm, Thee Song is melting my face. |
greg84
07.28.11 | Yes. Halfway To Gone are godly. |
Jethro42
07.28.11 | It shreds like they say in English, isnt it |
Jethro42
07.28.11 | ''kicks ass'', ''mind blowing'', ''owns face''...I think I learn my lessons well...
|
greg84
07.28.11 | ^ kicks ass, owns face, slays hard etc. indeed. |
Jethro42
07.28.11 | ''Can't you see'' is similar to 'Let her Cry' by Hootie and the Blowfish but song is great nonetheless. Thanks for showing me these guys! |
greg84
07.28.11 | Great American Scumbag, Escape From Earth, Whiskey Train, Never Comin' Home... It seems they captured the essence of stoner rock on this album. Or American rock music in general. |
MisterTornado
07.28.11 | Needs more Colour Haze and Causa Sui |
SteelErectedb4you8er
07.29.11 | How could you not mention Solace man! To the dude that likes Halfway to Gone, get some Solace, Sixty Watt Shaman, and Fireball Ministry. Kudos to Roachpowder by the way. |
SteelErectedb4you8er
07.29.11 | Nevermind, I see 13! |
greg84
07.29.11 | Yeah. Roachpowder... Thanks for showing me these guys. Also, you forgot Poor Bastards Revolt! |
BigHans
07.29.11 | Alabama Thunderpussy rule hard |
greg84
07.29.11 | I've heard their last album and was not impressed. Halfway To Gone are way, way better when it comes to southern metal. |
JamieTwort
07.29.11 | was listening to Halfway To Gone earlier today, great stuff. |
greg84
07.29.11 | Their all 3 albums are amazing. |
JamieTwort
07.29.11 | So far I've only heard the album on this list, it rules hard. |
North0House2
07.29.11 | 35007 needs to be on here.
I at least think so, they're pretty worthy of being considered stoner rock. |
greg84
07.29.11 | I've never heard of them tbh. I'll check them out. |
greg84
07.29.11 | I'm checking out their self-titled album. They're cool. Kind of space/stoner rock. Thanks for the rec. |
Jethro42
07.29.11 | Roachpowder doubled with Steelerected's recs, plus half of the list I yet have to check out. Where should I start in that sea of music...? |
greg84
07.29.11 | Poor Bastards Revolt of course.

Listen to the second song, Will Smith. |
Jethro42
07.29.11 | Cheerz mate, I will |
SteelErectedb4you8er
07.29.11 | hahaha, thanks for the support Greg! I am looking at bringing back my stoner rock roots! I haven't played guitar in a band for over 2 years! Too busy fronting a death metal band! |
Jethro42
07.29.11 | growling?...screamings?... |
greg84
07.29.11 | @Steve: I was once in a nu-metal/hardcore band. Good times! Can't wait to hear your re-mastered ep. It's great you're thinking of bringing back good ole stoner rock. Take care!
@Jethro: It's Steel's unique take on the genre. |
SteelErectedb4you8er
07.29.11 | Well, in my death metal band I do growls/screams/throaty singing/etc. Check it out here: www.facebook.com/fableofdeceit. We mix things up, but check it out for yourself.
PBR: I did the throaty Down/Halfway to Gone/Matt Pike/Iron Monkey style vocals, and my riffs are just, you know, stoner riffs.
Yeah man, I have been missing the guitar and I love to play stoner/doom. We will see if another project unfolds. |
SteelErectedb4you8er
07.29.11 | And I also used to play guitar in a Deftones/Tool/Helmet type of band when I was 16-20. I have recordings of that somewhere, maybe I will put them up. You play guitar. greg? |
Jethro42
07.29.11 | Nice! I play drums. I can sing. |
greg84
07.29.11 | @Steve: A bit. I'm a much better singer than guitarist. I play only ocassionally right now. I guess I played in a quite similar band to yours. We weren't very good though. |
Jethro42
07.29.11 | HA Never knew, Greg, musician... |
SteelErectedb4you8er
07.29.11 | My problem with PBR was finding a committed drummer that knew the true essence of rocking out and not having familiarity of the genres or bands I was influenced by, but he was good and did play well, but his commitment sucked. If I could find both qualities in a drummer, I will consider doing it again.
Ah, I see. You got anything brewing at the moment? If you don't you should. Yeah, we were good towards the end of our demise in my first band, but by that time, we had grown into different types of music, and needed a break playing with each other. However, 2 of the members were in PBR with me at a time, and we occasionally still jam. |
greg84
07.29.11 | @Jethro: That's too much. You can't say it. Haha
@Steve: Nah. My problem is just that I stopped playing and so improving. I haven't played in the band for about 6 years now. I know from my experience it's really hard to find commited peeps. I've heard that Jethro plays drums. Contact him. |
SteelErectedb4you8er
07.29.11 | Kalamazoo, MI is where I am, no idea where Jethro is, but if he was close, I would definitely consider it. Depending how much you know of the genre and style, I don't know either. But I did see you like some 70s rock/prog, which is definitely something I dig quite a bit too. |
greg84
07.29.11 | He's from Montreal so that would be difficult. Yeah I guess you would get on with each other quite well. |
Jethro42
07.29.11 | I'm inactive since 2005...I'm obsessed about writing a roman...A first one |
greg84
07.29.11 | The neighbors suffer... |
SteelErectedb4you8er
07.29.11 | Ah nice man! Well, your son can call me when he is 18, but by that point, I will be 33...and who knows where I will be or what I am doing by that point. I am sure I will get something going soon, the power of the riff compels me! |
Jethro42
07.29.11 | great man |
greg84
07.29.11 | ^Jethro immediately sends his son to Kalamazoo and the new classic stoner rock band is born.
