10.29.08 | both Tommy and Downward Spiral belong to the greatest albums of all time.
Pink Floyd - The Wall (you know it?... of course you do ;) )
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
I don't like the music of Operation: Mindcrime that much but the story kicks ass.
there are a lot of other great concept albums I know but none of them really tells a story the way these do. however, somehow story-based and amazing are these:
Neutral Milk Hotel - The Aeroplane Over the Sea
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust
glad no-one recommended Metropolis pt 2 yet, the most stupid story I've heard in my whole live. |

vendetta red - "sisters of the red death"
green day - "american idiot"
he is legend - "i am hollywood"
circle takes the square - "as the roots undo"
iron maiden - "seventh son of a seventh son"

calexico - "carried to dust"
devin townsend - "ziltoid the omniscient"
punky bruster - "cooked on phonics" (devin townsend sideproject).
nick cave and the bad seeds - "henry's dream"
fear factory - "obsolete"
rosetta - "the galilean satellites"
catch 22/streetlight manifesto - "keasby nights"
streetlight manifesto - "everything goes numb"
anything by mastodon (except "call of the mastodon")
the killing tree - "romance of helen trent"
nine inch nails - "year zero"
dredg - "el cielo" and "leitmotif"
my chemical romance - "the black parade"
fucked up - "the chemistry of common life"

the t4 project - "the t4 project" (aka "story-based concept album")
some of them have more obvious story elements to them than others, but all of them are (or claim to be) story-based concept albums to some extent.

10.29.08 | oh shit, mendigo's gonna be pissed!
tbf, the story on SFAM is dogshit, but the music's pretty good if you're in the mood for ridiculously wanky prog-metal. |

10.29.08 | oh here you go ;)
tbh, spoon you have a number of great concept albums here (and a number of weak ones - and a whole lot of albums I've never listened to) but stuff like Precambrien, El Cielo, As the Roots Undo and so on do not tell a "story"
however, I've forgotten Still Live and Year Zero (maybe because I don't like them that much). |

10.29.08 | well i'd actually agree with you on those three, but in interviews (or even in the liner notes in the case of ATRU) the band members have claimed that the albums are story-based. i guess if you read enough into the lyrics you could just about point out a story. i felt they were worth a mention anyway, as they're amazing albums. |

10.29.08 | Greg Jennings is my main man so here's to hoping Aaron has a big day. |
