I think that's mostly because they don't need foreign languages. Everyone except for the french, japanese, chinese and some other countries will understand them. |

because of the multitude of things you can do with the language. Personally I always try to revert to the English
equivalent, when most of the time there really isn't one. |

That's a misconception too. If you just go to all the tourist hotspots, sure, you probably will only need english. But if you want to actually explore the world most people won't. I went to ecuador recently for a month and practically no one there spoke english even in the capital city. we had to rely on the one spanish speaker in our group of 23 to translate everything |
