02.02.10 | Tough list, Dr. Strangelove just barely beats out 2001 for me but the following 3 films are not far behind either. The Killing and its meticulous narrative is underrated (as far as Kubrick goes, at least), Spartacus was epic but probably just a little too sentimental and romantic for its own good, Barry Lyndon is probably the most beautiful looking film he has made but arguably the most boring (I still loved it though, esp. the soundtrack) and Full Metal Jacket starts off fantastic but probably loses its way a little halfway through (the drill sergeant scenes are incredible).
As for the bottom two Killer's Kiss is decent but not really memorable, and I would say Fear and Desire is the only truly awful film he has made. So yeah, Kubrick. |

02.02.10 | I watched about an hour of 2001. Was just too slow. I may try again. But Dr Strangelove and A clockwork orange are pretty cool. Yeah, I agree with your discription of Full Metal Jacket. |

02.02.10 | i agree that 1-7 are varying degrees of greatness, although i would rearrange the order, and that 8-13 are varying degrees of meh that's pretty accurate in that order |
Deviant.
02.02.10 | So this is pretty much spot on |

02.02.10 | tough to rank but I would have 10 higher |

02.02.10 | What the shit Full Metal Jacket should be 4th and arguably 3rd. Barry Lyndon is always over looked because it's narrative is kinda whatever, but the visuals in that film are his best. Best lighting ever. |

02.02.10 | a clockwork orange is one of the top 5 best movies ever made. i think you can guess where it stands on my kubrick list |

02.02.10 | The Shining is way too low holy crap |

02.02.10 | the shining is a prime example of when the film is better than the book. have you ever read that piece of garbage? luckily, kubrick existed. (eyes wide shut is also better than the story that inspired its conception: dream story - which is a great novella). a clockwork orange is an awesome movie (second only to 2001 for me), but not quite as good as the novel, imo.
never seen dr. strangelove, lolita, or sparticus, all of which i have heard are amazing.
totally agree with the full metal jacket comments, too.
good list. |

02.02.10 | 'NO FIGHTING IN THE WAR ROOM!' |

02.02.10 | Yeah reading A Clockwork Orange is kind of confusing at first, but if you learn to speak the language the book gets a lot more enjoyable.. Good movie, but I haven't seen many of these only 3 and 11. |
Crysis
02.02.10 | A Clockwork Orange is one of my all-time favorite movies. Absolutely brilliant. |

02.02.10 | yes, but from beyond the grave! Also, I was referring to how Burgess hated Kubrick for bastardizing his novel. |

I read The Shining before I saw the film, and quite liked it. The adaption has never really done much for me though, I guess I preferred the emphasis on the psychological breakdown of Jack Torrance in the novel than how supernatural elements were portrayed in the film.

02.02.10 | "This guy named Rob Ager used to have his own interpretations in video form on YouTube that were really eye opening. I can't find them anymore, but his website has a bunch of Kubrick film reviews/interpretations that help out understanding big time.

I'm not sure if this is the same guy that did the Eyes Wide Shut interpretation, but that was incredibly well made. |

02.02.10 | I've only seen a few of Kubrick's movies, but they were all badass. I'll have to check these out. BTW, anyone heard of the Pleymo song Kubrick? Such a great homage to his name. |

02.02.10 | I remember in high school my English teacher had us watch 2001: A Space Odyssey and the whole time some girls were whining about how stupid they thought it was....mfers pissed me off |

02.02.10 | My personal favourite is Paths of Glory. The ending brought tears to my eyes. |

02.02.10 | The Shining's too low!
You probably already know this, but Kubrick would tell Shelly Duvall that she did everything wrong with every take, but never tell her why. He would tell her she was horrible over and over again until she would cry for real and then he would use that footage for the movie. |
