07.06.10 | Tried not to overload it with a bunch of albums by the same artists. |

07.06.10 | There need to be more "Shape of ______ to Come" albums. I only know of Jazz and Punk. |
Prolapse

07.06.10 | I've only skimmed The Shape of Jazz to Come, but yeah, Shape of Punk is one of the greatest albums of all time. I want more Shape of albums, dammit. |
Ghostechoes
07.06.10 | Great list, even though I have only listened to half of these albums.
(I thought Fela Kuti was considered Afrobeat) |

07.06.10 | WOW THOMAS! I'm a huge jazz guy too. You have some INCREDIBLE STUFF ON HERE. 1 is my favorite of all time.WOW. Great to see 7 on here, oh and 6. For some reason my fave Coltrane is My Fave Things but ok. Good call on 9, 10, 11, 13. OMFG 16.OMFG 24. Some of these are great, some unknown/less popular. I've been meaning to check out 27 for a while.29-32 are all awesome. OHHH. Dude nice on 28. Of course 35, 38, WOWOWOWWOWOWOWOWOWWWWWW OMFG 41 is amazing, great guitar player. I just got 43, haven't listened yet. I need moar 45and 46. This impressed me redsky, and this is coming from someone who studies and loves the jazz genre, especially classic jazz. |

07.06.10 | most of these are rather well known. I dunno how someone that "someone who studies and loves the jazz genre" could just be getting around to listening to Horace Silver. the dude's a fucking legend. |
NeutralThunder12
07.06.10 | I used the wrong word. Not 'unknown', but less popular then, say, the 'bigger' guys of classic jazz, such as Miles, Coltrane, Mingus, Montgomery, Cannonball and Bill Evans. And I don't study jazz as in it's history, I study composition/jazz structure/chord progressions. I just recently became a jazz fan, really this year, and I'm going through tons of albums as quickly as I can. I listened to Horace before, but never a full length. There are still more I need to check out, I've already checked out like 20 Miles albums, who's just my favorite EVER, and various other jazz artists from the classic jazz movements. I still need a lot more, and there are some here that I simply have not gotten around to. |

07.06.10 | yes a jazz list!
anyways 1 and 2 are obviously genius, i dont know if enough can ever be said about them. i suppose 1 may be underrated by the people who mainly just know bitches brew and kind of blue.
mingus is the tits, and herbie is my favorite. have you listened to any of his other recordings? thrust and empyrean islands are my two other favorites, but really all his stuff through man-child is awesome.
17 is great and and as for 24 and 25 i really tried to get into but i never REALLY got into to any songs except miles beyond. but the band is very talented such as billy cobham (36 is great) and jan hammer. check out wired by jeff becker...hammer plays on it, its a great album
27 i;ve never listened to but have always had it reccomended from people...maybe i need to give it a shot, same with wayne shorter solo records.
anyways...i digress, great list...im gonna go listen to some monk now

07.06.10 | Pretty great list. Sonny Rollins always falls under the radar unfortunately - truly one of the underrated greats. Was fortunate enough to see him 4 rows from the stage back in April and it was worth EVERY penny.
You should check out the Preservation Hall Jazz Band if you haven't already. I have Songs Of New Orleans and it's fantastic! |

07.08.10 | @ Progmaster stop saying you like Jazz so people think you are smart.
@redsky. I'm not a huge jazz guy, have about 1/2 of these.
I obviously love Davis, Coltrane, Cannonball...etc.
But it's awesome to see Fela Kuti, Nelson, The Mahavishnu Orchestra and my favourite composer Mingus.
Try Hypnotic Jazz Ensemble- Hypnotic Jazz Ensemble my album of last year. |
