Up The Punx

My journey into punk rock has been a long one, starting back around the age of 12. Before then I mostly listened to whatever pop albums were topping the Billboard charts and "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Then when I started getting into punk, a whole new door was opened (gay). Over five years later, my music taste is very diverse, but punk will always be my first love (gayer). The following albums are not my "favorite" punk albums (though some would rank among them), but the ones that are the most important to me personally in terms of being the gateway to discovering better music, their impact on my whole life, nostalgia, etc.
1 The Misfits
Static Age

The first punk album I got in 6th grade. Became obsessed with the band very quickly, especially Danzig, who remains one of my personal favorite vocalists to this day. My essential tracks: Last Caress, Hybrid Moments, We Are 138, Bullet, Some Kind of Hate, Teenagers from Mars.
2The Lawrence Arms
Apathy and Exhaustion

My first newer punk album. Picked it up at FYE when I was 12 because I liked the cover and thought the name was cool. TLA would go on to become one of my favorite bands ever. My essential tracks: The Corpses of Our Motivations, Porno and Snuff Films, basically the whole album.
3The Clash
London Calling

My namesake; though I have no idea why the "457" is there. Anyway, I stumbled across this used for $3 when I was first getting into punk and remembered hearing how good it was supposed to be. 5 years later, it may be my favorite album of all time and The Clash are definitely my favorite band. I loved everything about them: their image, lyrics, and most importantly...Joe Strummer. I haven't listened to it lately, but I can count on one hand the number of times I have put on London Calling and not listened to the whole thing through. The whole album is essential.
4 The Clash
The Clash

See above.
5Lagwagon
Hoss

Catchy, catchy, catchy. I think I knew every lyric on here at one point. Lagwagon are one of the most consistent bands in punk and this album is probably my favorite of theirs. My essential tracks: Kids Don't Like to Share, Violins, Name Dropping, Razor Burn, Bombs Away
6Propagandhi
How to Clean Everything

Like Lagwagon, I find Propagandhi to be very consistent and diverse. My essential tracks: Anti-Manifesto, Ska Sucks, Stick the F*cking Flag Up Your Goddam Ass, You Sonofabitch (lol)
7NOFX
White Trash, Two Heebs, and A Bean

"What?! What about Punk in Drublic?" NOFX get shit on a lot , I know, but when I first got into them, they were just so fun to listen to. Don't listen to them too much nowadays, but still important in my musical evolution. My essential tracks: Bob, Soul Doubt, Stickin' In My Eye,
8Minor Threat
Complete Discography

Another album I usually listen to all the way through because it never fails to kick my ass. sXe. My essential tracks: Out of Step, Seeing Red, In My Eyes, Look Back and Laugh, Filler, Straight Edge, Screaming at a Wall
9 The Bouncing Souls
The Bouncing Souls

I seem to have a strange affinity for Greg Attonito's voice. They're amazing live. My essential tracks: Cracked, Say Anything, Kate is Great (one of the best 3 songs to start an album ever imo), East Side Mags, Single Successful Guy, East Coast Fuck You!, Shark Attack
10Descendents
Milo Goes to College

pop-punk. ok. My essential tracks: Myage, Suburban Home, Bikeage, Hope
11Operation Ivy
Energy

Classic from start to finish. My essential tracks: every track (typical).
12Catch 22
Keasbey Nights

A friend of mine's sister told me to listen to this. She was kind of hot so I took her advice. My first venture into ska-punk. My essential tracks: Dear Sergio, Keasbey Nights, 9mm and a Three Piece Suit, 1234,1234
