Biggest Disappointments Of 2007

These are albums I had high hopes for in 2007 but failed miserably. This is all IMO and in no particular order.
1Arch Enemy
Rise of the Tyrant

After coming off a good album, Doomsday Machine, that showed maturity in sound and refined heaviness, this is quite possibly one of the worst melodic death metal albums to come out this year. Besides the solos, the riffs are boring and Angela's vocals have never been so annoying. Seriously disappointed!
2Soilwork
Sworn to a Great Divide

Being a fan of all their previous works to this, I was not impressed with the average musicianship these guys put forth.
3The Black Dahlia Murder
Nocturnal

When I first listened to this, I thought it was a definite step up from their previous works. Even though this may be the case, they break no new ground with this album and thus making it rather boring and dull after 3 or 4 listens.
4Yakuza
Transmutations

I thought their sound was cool at first but after realizing that mixing saxophones with the 'Converge' like insanity, it was just not a good combination.
5Nine Inch Nails
Year Zero

More like zero effort from a band that I've grown up with. What a lackluster attempt to create a concept album about an apocalyptic future that has already been done before......does Fear Factory's older albums come to mind? Or look at God Forbid's last album they put out. To think they could get any worse then With Teeth would have been uncalled for. Sorry, biggest disappointment of 2007.
6As I Lay Dying
An Ocean Between Us

After hearing the song Within Destruction, I thought that AILD were going for a more thrashy approach. How wrong was I when I picked this piece of shit up and realized they followed down the same generic path that most metalcore bands are following today.
7Mayhem
Ordo Ab Chao

Sloppy song writing and poor vocal delivery made it hard to even get through this album once. Previous albums to this were superb, but Mayhem just got lazy and decided to barf into the microphone and hit record.
8Foo Fighters
Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace

Colour and the Shape and their other previous records were all excellent alternative rock albums. So why check out this album if you already own a few other Foo Fighter albums. This album is no step in any direction. Just boring song after boring song after boring song.
9Smashing Pumpkins
Zeitgeist

This is Billy Corgan on crack and pretending to write an album that has never been done before.
10Linkin Park
Minutes to Midnight

Ok so I lied. I was expecting this to be a bad album when I streamed it one day off their myspace page. I don't think I could have prepared myself for the catastrophe that was to be. The next day, I felt ill!
