Top 10 Bands...

Usually this doesn't bother me but for some reason tonight I felt the intense need to pick my 10 favorite bands, to give myself peace of mind. The challenge will be keeping it below 10...
1Opeth

My first venture into metal, a genre which I had previously despised. The first song i heard was "Patterns in the Ivy 2" and I immediately thereafter bought BWP and Still Life. I've been a hopeless fanboy ever since.
2AFI

I know they're not the most popular band on Sputnik, but I've been in love with this band ever since I heard "Sing the Sorrow" a couple years ago. I own nearly everything of theirs and love almost every second of it.
3Goo Goo Dolls

Again, not the most beloved band on sputnik. But they were the band that got me obsessed with music. There's something about the Goo Goo Dolls that has always struck a very emotional chord with me. And although they tend to be quite inconsistent in all of their albums, I'll always love them.
4Death Cab for Cutie

I don't care what anyone says. DCFC are masters of balancing simplicity and technicality and making it incredible. Their masterpiece "Transatlanticism" is perhaps my favorite album ever. (contenders: Sing the Sorrow and Blackwater Park)
5Rush

I grew up with this band blasting out of my dad's car sterios, so Rush holds a very nostalgic attachment for me. Besides that personal fact, most everything they've done is phenomenal.
6Nightwish

Suprisingly enough, my little sister was listening to this band long before I allowed myself to like them (I had previously dismissed them as "overdramatic" and "cheesy"). Once I saw the light, I became an addict. I found their latest release to be thoroughly un-disappointing.
7Anberlin

A mainstream-ish alt-rock band that also happens to have a nearly flawless catalogue. It's nice to have something catchy and emotional that has great replay value.
8Thrice

I found Thrice seeking a good post-hardcore band following my recent entry into said genre. So naturally, the first song I chose to listen to, "For Miles", left me slightly disappointed... until the sudden and unexpected transition in that song hit me. I sat glued to my seat by the intensity and grandeur of it all. Their bumper sticker now remains firmly plastered to my car. A high honor, that.
9Daphne Loves Derby

A somewhat underrated indie pop band with some of the best lyrics around and the ability to evoke intense emotion through the simplest songwriting techniques. My connection with this band is also extremely personal... so admit a bit of bias.
10Deftones

A band I listened to for years with some skepticism but which finally worked its way up into my favorites.
