Influential Music

A list of the music that has been highly influential to, well my development as a person
1Tool
Lateralus

I remember hearing Schism in 2001 late at night on Rage, and that was a life changing experience. Then, discovering the whole album really was a complete rebirth of my musical understanding.
2Slayer
Seasons in the Abyss

Thrash metal at it's best. Honestly this is by fay my favourite Slayer album and one that has helped me progress with my percussion study.
3 Anton Dvorak
Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95

Really this symphony is up there amongst Beethoven's 9th symphony in terms of joy, technicality and approach. It introduced me to another side of music - the romantic era.
4Slipknot
Iowa

Odd, but yes indeed. While I don't listen to this really much at all, nor enjoy it much either, it gave me the necessary nudge toward rebellion that every teenager has to go through.
5Pink Floyd
Dark Side of the Moon

Initially, this album for me was pretty bland, but as my musical taste widened I began to enjoy its splendour. From every corner of the prism does this album continue to impress me.
6Modest Mussorgsky
Pictures at an Exhibition

Incredibly this set of works initiated the journey I went through towards learning the piano. While I stay true towards Beethoven's piano arrangement, as well as other composers such as Kabalevsky, Bax, and Tchaikovsky, this piece always makes me smile.
7 Basil Poledouris
The Hunt for Red October

To me, one of the best film scores ever, the music for this movie was so well done, that at even the age of five I managed to enjoy every aspect of the film as well as the music for it, to the point where I used to goto school humming the infamous hymn.
8System of a Down
Toxicity

Another album that pushes you. Musically not as influential as other, but still a great album.
9Kate Bush
The Kick Inside

As a child I remember listening to the joy of this album, and it still affects my day when I listen to it. Her voice is refreshing, and certainly a great morning wake up call.
10 Philip Glass
Akhnaten

Minimalism took a while for me to induce, but when I did manage to appreciate this work, it showed me whole new world of hypnotic music that Glass does so well.
