Michael Amott is afraid of Jeff Loomis
Amott was asked about the lack of songwriting credits (as in 0) to Loomis on the new Arch Enemy record. His answer:
"No. I mean, he's a strong songwriter, but not in the style of ARCH ENEMY, I feel. He's always writing and recording with his own stuff. He has a project called CONQUERING DYSTOPIA, he has his solo stuff, [and] he obviously wrote most of the NEVERMORE stuff. I've always respected him, and continue to respect him, as a guitar player — he's amazing and an amazing human being; he fits in perfectly. [There's] a great chemistry [between us]. But, you know, I've always written most of the music, so it's difficult to… I don't really wanna change the sound of the band too much. The band sort of started around my songwriting and my ideas, and those continue to be the most dominant ones, I guess. But, you know, who knows [what can happen] in the future?"
"He's really fucking good and I don't want him to upstage me."
This blows. I can only assume that Will to Power will sound exactly like Arch Enemy has sounded since Anthems of Rebellion. I can't imagine how fucking awesome it would be if Loomis was allowed creative input.
I miss Nevermore.
This Godless Endeavor
Zero Order Phase
Anthems of Rebellion is way heavier and nastier than what the new stuff seems to be shaping up to be. I miss when they could still write songs like Silent Wars and Dead Eyes See No Future. I think that was the last album that still had bite before the band began to sound sterile.
As for the Jeff Loomis situation... eh. They're both lvl 9000 guitar wizards. Who can upstage who seems moot.
I miss when they had thrashy riffs. It'd be great if they had someone around who could write some of those...
it would be great if they wrote songs
arch enemy hasn't been relevant for a decade boss
Amott isn't shit compared to Loomis. I bet if they worked together though, they could be a different version of Nevermore which is something everyone, for the most part, would like.
It sounds like a slower, more-accessible version of the previous release... and yes, Loomis is totally wasted on this album. Alyssa gets the chance to expand her vocals in a few tracks. Unfortunately, the one she gets to shine the most on, is also the worst musically.
Bringing in so much new blood and not giving them space to fit really aggravates me bout this band. I used to love these guys but the refusal to change at all kills it for me.
|Thrashy melodeath with wicked solos and occasional atmospheric cleans. Imagine what they could've given us. :||
They're basically just boring power metal with death metal vocals nowadays. Amott really needs to either diversify his writing or bring in Loomis. I heard Chris Amott had some part in the writing for a track or 2 on the new album which is welcome to me tbh.
i'm actually afraid of music
Well at least you won't have to hear the new album then.
i've been blessed
