07.08.17 | NWA. I'd argue that 'Straight Outta Compton' is like the 'Nevermind' of gangsta rap. |

07.08.17 | i was thinking of nwa but i explicitly remember cube and dre saying Ice T was where they got the ultraviolent west coast gangsta stuff.
edit: i know schoolly d invented gangsta rap but ice-t sold more records and caused more controversy and it was just better? lol schoolly is still number 1 in the hood, g |

The problem with eminem is that after encore he went downhill compared to their early stuff, sure, he has released MMLP2 and Recovery which have some really epic tracks but he released a lot of bad shit during the encore and relapse era, and shady XV is one of the dullest album I've listened from a rap legend |
Masochist
07.08.17 | LeOmegaOnslaught - That's all right...bad albums do not make someone less influential. Wu-Tang has, maybe, two good albums as a whole group (out of seven), but no one can deny their influence. Eminem has Slim Shady LP, Marshall Mathers LP, and maybe The Eminem Show that really influenced a whole generation of rappers (of all colors, from 50 Cent to Yelawolf to Macklemore to Hopsin).
That all being said...Eminem got his style from Esham, and Esham got his style from Geto Boys, who basically created Horrorcore. I think they definitely deserve a spot on here--we might not have Eminem, TechN9ne, D12, or (loathe as they are to admit it) any of the OddFuture guys without GetoBoys. |

07.08.17 | a lot of people could say that wutang fell off even worse than eminem did after wutang forever and we had redeeming moments in ghost and rae's 00s albums.
im thinking about influence. yet i dont know anyone who has taken from his style (slim shady vs marshall mathers duality) that's also a dope successful rapper. maybe all those rappers were just showing respect or giving their list of greatest rappers. like u could argue future is more influential. kinda conflicted on this one. eminem influenced ed sheeran for gods sake |
AlexKzillion
07.08.17 | Even with that, seems like he is the archetype that every ~lyrical~ white rapper strives to be and he has his fair share of impersonators (Hopsin, Louis Logic, Asher Roth), hell I'd even say Kendrick and Ab-Soul sounded a little too much like Eminem back around 2009-2011, as well as God Loves Ugly-era Slug. |

Tyler the Creator?
"(loathe as they are to admit it) any of the OddFuture guys"
Can sort of agree with this, but Earl has always come off to me as more of a Doom influenced guy tbh |
